If he wasn't so young I'd start him every game, But don't wanna cause him a injury from over playing.
Played 2 friendlys now and looked quality in both tbh. On a side note I thought Arma looked great in midfield.
Glad to hear that there isn't anything up with Edozie, I feel like he'll do well on that left hand side. It's quite interesting how we play with 2 attacking 8s too. I do wonder whether the Club will cash in on smallbone.
We knew throughout last season that our squad is crap and in need of a massive overhaul. That hasn't happened yet and nothing will change until it does.
And we still haven’t signed a goalscoring striker, or a defensive leader, which were the two main problem areas last season.
If we think our pre season performances are a bit meek so far, spare a thought for Reading who just enjoyed a 2-0 loss to Sutton United in Selles first game in charge. Granted Reading are in a specifically challenging set of circumstances… and they’ll now probably beat us next weekend.
They don’t look like a professional football team half the time. I know it was only a friendly, but Goztepe looked much more competent than us. They defended well, tried to counter and threatened a lot given their limited talent. We as usual looked like a lethargic group of strangers that wouldn’t score from open play in 90 years, let alone 90 minutes. We need some big signings and big management
Second pre-season game, in sweltering conditions that the players aren’t acclimatised to, still a massive squad with mostly the same players as last season, some of which actively want out and know they’re likely to leave. I really wouldn’t be taking too much from these yet. With the changes we still intend to make in playing staff and with the transfer window open still for some time, it’s going to take a while for things to start to look better.
But to be fair, Goztepe were playing in their own acclimatised environment and , not only was it hot, from the ripples on the players’ shirts, pretty windy.
Despite the mini-meltdown comments, it's not really a meltdown, it doesn't make any 'king difference what I say or think anyway but I still think that if pre-season friendlies are this pointless why have them - half or more of the players involved won't be here and the new ones aren't here so who the heck is this benefitting?
Friendlies are extended training sessions. Fitness and getting used to each other in a game situation. They are very important - but results are a bonus.
