He was meant to be the next big thing when he was at Dortmund, but never really kicked on. It's the Mail, though, so I now doubt that he even exists.
Only 23 days until the season opener against Sheffield Wednesday, however still 51 days until the transfer window closes. Frustrating not to have much of an idea of what our squad and team will actually look like, but theres so much to do that it will likely drag right on to the end of the window. Or at least that's what I have to keep reminding myself when I get annoyed that we've barely shifted anyone yet.
You’d hope that there is lots going on behind the scenes that we are unaware of (which I’m sure there is). If the reports we hear in the media are true and teams are miles off our valuation for players then it’s just going to run and run right til the end of the window. If we are going to stick to our guns on the fees then it makes squad planning very hard for next year. There are probably 10 players we’d like to shift who aren’t necessarily in the “teams actually really want them” category, those ones have been very quiet. Thinking players like Aribo, Diallo, Armstrongs, McCarthy Then players like Perraud and KWP who there have been no links with to my knowledge who you’d expect wouldn’t want a season in the Championship
It's quite normal though, isn't it. Unless we are happy to be taken advantage of just to get players out the door it's going to take time to get the right deal for the club. And other clubs coming in with offers will have other targets too, which takes time. It's frustrating but we are talking about good, mostly international, players. So we need patience to get the best outcomes. I'm just glad to see players coming in whilst we work things out.
Oh yeah I’m not arguing against the clubs stance on it. Just that how adamant we are that we want, say £40m for JWP and nobody gets close to that. Leaves us in limbo a bit with “should we buy someone expecting he will be gone?” If we sign players, like Manning for example, and then we don’t end up selling Perraud/KWP then we have 3 out and out left backs (Perraud/Larios/Manning) and KWP who has played well at left back in the premier league. And then we are in a similar position to last year where we have a massive squad and I think that was definitely part of the reason why we had a terrible season. Hopefully the club have a plan and are much clearer than we are on who will/won’t be here at the end of the transfer window, and it’s not “well he will unless somebody bids X amount” as that opens up a lot of unknowns
The players that we want to keep, are the good ones. They will get offers and we will have a high valuation. We probably don’t really want to sell JWP and would rather make £40m and 100k/week in wage savings by selling (even for minor fees as you still tend to save longer term in wages and bonuses) a dozen or so of our bountiful underperforming players (Anyone named Adam or Armstrong in any capacity, my beautiful boy Moussa, Perraud, Diallo, Big Lad Up Top Who’s Name Escapes Me, Bednarek, Stephens…I mean I really could go on, Christ, this was a depressing season.)
I wouldn't necessarily want to lose Bedders & Stephens, they've got to be up to Champ standard Adam or Armstrong is confusing, I think you mean Adam Armstrong or Che Adams, in which case I'd be happy if they were replaced with quality as I've seen enough of them not scoring and feel we all need a break from that, despite this being more their level On Stu Armstrong, can he get fit enough to play a part as I'm sure he'd thrive at this level Tall Paul really isn't a player for the RM way of playing is he. He should go back to Belgium where he could score goals with his head and presumably never have to try and control the ball with any other part of his body, which he's clearly not suited to Poor Moussa. I wish it had worked out better. He was still doing his usual pointless step-over thing v Benfica and getting nowhere At one point commentator said "Great step overs from Djenepo". So true
