Bit before my time. He played in the 1983 Cup final but I don't remember him tbh. Obviously well respected by United fans. R.I.P.
Posted this on PL board so will repeat here; This man was centre half when I had my first lmtb's as a youngster. A ripple of laughter used to go round when he ran out of the defence with the ball, reached the half way line and hoofed it forward, then ran back to his defensive position. Great bloke and top defender from the old school. We got him and Joe Jordan from Leeds around the same time, but Gordon stuck around. Jordan went to AC Milano. RIP Gordon.
Was a figure of fun, but was still an excellent defender. Got his head in the way of a lot, and must have had long term effects. Very sad.
A friend of mine enjoyed a VIP matchday and GM was the player 'host' for their table. He relates the tale of how he never saw the match that day, that GM and Bryan Robson together entertained a suite full of die-hard fans - the match was incidental to the company they found themselves in.
Elegant and brave player with great head balling skills. Sadly that skill could have contributed to his terrible illness at the end. I watched him play many times and was loved by the faithful. RIP Gordon
Terrible news, and only a few years after his wife suffered a brain haemorrhage too. Hoping for the best..
