Leake got hung out a couple of times too. The point of playing out from the back is to draw the press. If the press is drawn and all short oprions are marked up then that's the point and the space is behind. Couple of pacey additions up top and a keeper who can play as a sweeper then we'll be fine.
Just rewatched the highlights and Doc really did have a stinker. 2nd and 3rd he lost the ball on the edge of our area. 1st goal of theirs was a touch of class. Doc is the worrying one for me, he’s got no better since we were promoted from league 1 and he’s played a lot of football in that time. TLT gave him a perfectly simple pass to deal with for the second but his first touch was worryingly poor. Be interesting what happens there as he’s probably the first I’d move on out our current squad after Figureido, players like Woods in this system are good depth options as he showed today. 2/3 wingers and a left back and I think we are looking good providing we keep Oscar and Greaves.
Overall a good game to watch bearing in mind a friendly. As has already been discussed the keeper's inexperience showed with his passing out from the back. As I think we learnt last season, when teams start with a high press you have to then go long until they realise the high press is not working, then they will drop off and you can then play out from the back. 2nd half we did that, Ingram went long when he felt unsafe to go short and we press them higher. First half Doch has a bit of a nightmare, other than that I thought Delap looked promising, Tetteh looks fitter and Allahyar kept trying to get passed his marker and in the end, got his rewards with an assist. 2nd Half we looked much better balanced, Oscar/Slater/Woods/Vaughan/Greaves all looked sharp, Simon's was steady Fleming looked to link up quite well with Vaughan. Greaves looked very assured and will be hard to keep him from not starting, Macca has his work cut out to keep his place. All in all a great advert from Acun and City, and he certainly knows how to make us global without a name change. P.S. I thought the black back of the shirt looked good. P.P.S Where was Traore?
It makes me laugh how random turkish fans find this forum...like bollocks. Its one of you tits just starting a new account. No way are people finding ****ty not606. It's only us nobbers from hull who use it anyway.
I'd forgotten about the penalty we didn't get first half at 0-0, replay showed a definite trip on Delap.
we didnt get better we stopped messing about at the back last season after conceding two ridiculous goals we seem to be trying to concede ridiculous goals again this season
careful or you’ll be accused of pushing a narrative, some also suggested we didn’t do this last season and this was the first time
Man City are not averse to kicking the ball upfield. That's how Haarland has got some of his goals. They also play the ball out from the back quickly. Unfortunately, sometimes they mess about at the back and concede goals or nearly concede goals. Dont give attackers the opportunity to take the ball off you in your own 20 yards!
If we'd played better, we could have won the game, got three points and advanced to the next round. Oh well, there's always next year.
you still dont get it do you? there's nothing wrong with playing out from the back what is wrong is messing about at the back and losing it due to ridiculous passes
it was more than the goalkeeper putting defenders under pressure unnecessarily though. The whole defence was doing the same. Goalkeeper is so important that it's worth paying extra (in wages and transfer fee) for a good one. We seem to want to get one on the cheap.
it's not sensible to play risky balls at the back in the hope that a few will not result in a goal being conceded you can pass the ball out from the back without taking risks
