I absolutely agree that playing time should be very important to Tino (more so than money). He needs to be playing, not sat on the bench. But in addition, I also think that for someone like him, moving to Newcastle at this stage of their journey could be a risk. No-one knows what the next few years holds for them, or where their ceiling will be (if there even is one). Becoming the next Man City is very different to becoming the next Spurs. I doubt Newcastle are going to turn into a selling club anytime soon, so signing for Newcastle is good way to make it very difficult to get yourself an even bigger move later on. If Newcastle do become the next Man City or Chelsea, then that is kind of irrelevant. But if they become the next Spurs (or even lower than that), then it's a problem. If Tino lives up to his first season potential (which is a massive "if), then he should be looking for a trophy-laden career. As opposed to "just" top four finishes and the odd unsuccessful trip to Wembley.
Friend of a friend. May be just a rumour but… no reason to lie tbh. Also i have just been informed on saintsweb that the agent represents some others in our squad. So I guess could easily have been about something else
This. The team needs to be treated like a Tudor perpetrator of treason- limbs severed and sent to the four corners of the land.
Even early stages of a Man City or Chelsea journey could be a mistake. Even more likely to end up unable to move. I’m thinking of when Bridge moved to City and I think was replaced pretty quickly
Yep that’s the Reed, yep that one,who did such great things the club let him leave with no ifs or buts.
Downes would be quite a signing I think. Age, profile, style of play, familiarity etc and always good to be seen to be making forward looking signings before what we know will be a significant amount leaving.
He did delete it apparently, but it’s 10 years ago and someone saved it to embarrass him further down the line.
Usually when players are linked with moves away there is a bit of noise about what the player wants. Interestingly with JWP & Lavia it is complete radio silence. I wonder if that means they've been promised moves already.
I don't think any promises would be made, as you can't predict what other clubs will do. If no one offers more than, say, 25m for JWP, then he isn't going anywhere. Simple as that. He would have been told, "we won't stand in your way, so long as the price is right." Prowsie is never that vocal. Two summers ago, when Villa chased him all summer, the whole fan base was convinced he was going. Then he signs a 5 year contract and says, effectively, that he never had any intention to leave.
You are assuming that someone somewhere, knows what is going on, and that human affairs unfold in accordance with some sort of plan. Life does not seem to work that way, however.
That's what I mean, promised to leave at £x amount. I believe we did similar with Mane, asked for 1 more year but promised to let him leave the following summer.
