QPR are delighted to announce the appointment of Ben Williams as the club’s new Director of Performance, overseeing the club’s sports science, medical, physio and nutritional departments. Williams joins the R’s backroom staff from renowned cycling team, INEOS Grenadiers and British Americas Cup Challenger, INEOS Britannia, where he spent nine years working across several positions, most recently as Head of Performance Support & Innovation and Head of Human Performance. Williams said: "I am very excited about this new role and developing a culture of collaboration, integration and innovation throughout the club that truly impacts performance. Our aim is to build a unified system that utilises the knowledge and experience within the whole club, not just within departments or teams.
Is this a new position? Think it was Clive at LFW who suggested we already had a much bigger backroom staff than most teams, despite our financial troubles. But if this sorts out our farcical injury issues I'm all for it.
So Chris Ramsey is Technical Director. Dr Imtiaz Ahmed is head of Medicine and Performance . This position was only created last year... to smooth out problems
Looks an impressive appointment. Let’s hope he walks the talk, and the CV, for all our squads. Not a bad thing that he comes in with a larger amount of experience from outside of football. Be good to see our fitness improve and achieve a reduced injury list (which we know GA wasn’t happy with - so he’s actively doing something about it). Also good to build in fitness expectations from academy levels as they (hopefully) grow towards first team squad and playing. Good stuff.
Nine years with various cycling road race teams? Hmm, good experience, I guess? *** (Does the club need a "Head of Medicine and Performance" AND a "Director of Performance"? Just seems a bit 'over the top' to me, whatwith the club having to be very careful with its finances?) *** (In Germany the nickname for the Tour de France was, and probaly still is, the Tour d'Apotheke)
If he has good leadership qualities I’m sure he will be able to pedal his ideas quickly through the team. Though you only need a couple of unbelievers and it could derailleur.
It’s good that our management are mixing it up a bit. Util now, it’s been driving me up the wall in search of progress to get to the next stage of this race. Hopefully, we can get a signing or two in but l can’t see us breaking any time trials on finding new players. Perhaps, a new keeper with a yellow jersey will ride our way if GA can pedal his ideas to the finance department. We need them riding side by side on making team changes. Knowing our lot, we’ll have a mountain to climb before it’s a mad sprint to start of the season. Think l’ve just hit a speed bump & been disqualified for pushing untested performance enhancing advise to our board!
