Cortese = Good. Reed = Bad. Simples. Where's my blue ink when you need it? As if we're still talking about Cortese in 2023 ffs.
Thought I'd have a check and see what signings of at least some note we have made after Cortese left There's some, but clearly a big decline in quality & quantity of quality Don't disagree with your fundamental point, but don't know how much its down to Cortese as 2014 & 15 were good (He left Jan 2014) Was it partly luck? Could we expect to continue getting players like that? How do you keep doing it when they keep leaving? I think 2022 almost represents an 'improvement', big BUT here of course, they were all too young & inexperienced to be of any use to us immediately 2014 Mane, Tadic, Pelle, Fraser & Shane 2015 Oriel & VVD 2016 Hojbjerg & Redders 2017 Bednarek 2018 Stu, Ings & Steven Davis 2019 KWP 2020 Salisu 2021 Perraud, Lyanco, Tino & Broja 2022 Sulemana, Bazanu, Alcaraz, Lavia & ABK EDIT: Just realised I needed to look at previous years for comparison and Steven Davis was 2012 Doh! 2012 JayRod, Gaston, Clyne, Maya & Steven Davis 2013 Wanyamea & Lovren (Osvaldo!!!) Seems to me that 2014, after Cortese, was our best year
Cortese did not sit there and single handedley scout, monitor and approve every signing. He wasn't even a football man. He had a team beneath him who did that, which included Reed. Honestly, he is not the perfect god with zero flaws like people make him out to be.
I was bored of the 'want them to drop their valuation' stories before the window even opened. Now it's making me want to smash my screen. The press did/are doing the same with Leicester and Leeds players.
Yeah good point, the general point I was trying to make is that we’ve had many a transfer window to replace the quality we lost for various reasons but we haven’t. We’ve never replaced Tadic,Pelle,Mane to name but a few. Steven Davis was fantastic for us and we’ve never replaced him
