Mainly in response to Ray Stevenson's death, but as crap as the show often was it did have a boss opening sequence
I can remember the first time watching the Magic Roundabout, my brother and me thought Mum had laced our Vesta chicken supreme with something
I can remember as a 5 year old wondering why the BBC bothered with Rag, Tag and Bobtail because nothing happened. Where is Tag? Here comes Bobtail! Hello Rag. That was it! An insult to all thinking 5 year olds. Not forgetting Muffin the Mule (which must be illegal) The WoodenTops and they were!. The BBC seem to view children as mumbling idiots who liked peace and quiet. Bill & Ben reflecting on the future was fun and the Clangers discussions on interstellar travel was always worthwhile. Finally they caught up with their young viewers with Magic Roundabout but didn't realise it
The first tranche of these shows were (in our eyes) puerile, very much with a post-War feel - overly undramatic and coddling. It took the societal changes of the mid-60's to drag UK television into a new place.
Never got Andy Pandy, always thought he was a pussy ,nowadays Looby Loo would have operation Yewtree knocking on his and Teddies door Best bit of Bill and Ben was when they went behind the shed I loved the Oliver Postgate children's programmes , Ivor the Engine and Noggin the nog , pogles wood,Clangers and the Pingwings , a bit to old for Bagpuss but enjoyed it when my kids were old enough Loved Captain Pugwash , Bleep and Booster and the Gerry Anderson output , my mate Dirty Barry's main claim to fame is doing the dirty with the real life Lady Penelope ( Silvia Anderson ) Barry's wife does not know why he paid so much for a Lady Penelope puppet
WouldTales from the riverbank be made present day, not allowed to put a Hamster,Rat and a Guinea Pig in a boat and set them off down a river without life jackets let alone setting the off into the Sky in a radio controlled plane
60d and 70s UK kids TV (programmes, PSAs) were superb. Entertainment + education + inspiration. In the case of the BBC, being taxpayer funded + TV channel count on one hand obviously helped (no "market forces" to push cost cutting etc) . For Gerry Anderson, the vision and belief of Lew Grade was astonishing. To allow Thunderbirds to have SFXs and soundtrack budgets akin to cinema was unheard of in commercial TV of the time.
He wasn't alone ..... I'm friends with someone close to her daughter Dee and the stories have flowed! Sylvia spent so much time on her back it's a miracle she got any work done!
Barry asked her to do the " Parker take off my dress voice" she just rolled her eyes and said " that old one " not again
The original was in French and the English dub didn't use their scripts. They just made **** up, instead. They didn't even use the character names.
Well, you can thank Emma Thompson's Dad, Eric for that. Apparently he just watched the original French footage and came up with story lines he felt fitted the footage he was watching. Clearly there was something in the water in the Thompson household!
I think Hectors House could be in the same category French puppets and a script from someone who's licked a Cane Toad
You mean La Maison de Toutou? It was French and they did change the names of the characters. The English version did follow the original scripts, though.
