Was Fabian Schar the best CB in the league last season?

I see Botman got into many people's team of the season, but Fabian Schar had one of the highest amount of interceptions in the league, and also his long balls lead to a lot of chances and offered us a way up the pitch.

I fail to see how Botman should get into Tots but not Schar.

In terms of all round play, who was better?

Explain? Schar's passing was extremely useful at times. His passes lead to direct assists or chances, and he also had one of the highest levels of intreceptions in the league and was unlucky only to have one goal.

Botman was practically useless attacking wise.

I'd say Botman is better at defending aerial threats and is better at tracking players and dispossessing them, but that's it.

Think Botman across the board is the better player, especially as you say at the defensive side of the game which is what I want out of a CB.

Schar does a lot of the pretty stuff very well - he always has a rocket of a goal in his locker and great passing - and by no means saying he's not a good player but I think across the board Botman is the better player as a defender, would say Botman has an equally impressive range of passing although he mainly focuses on the switch of play rather than the ball over the top a la Schar. Schar also has a bit of a tendency to be beaten by his man when the ball is on the deck where as Botman less so.

They complement each other very well. At present technically Schar is the better player.

Botman has the potential and strength to be much better next to Schar.

    Schar has played well.

    Schar sometimes sees red.

Botman is cool as a cucumber.

Out of both there wasn’t much difference last season. But Botman just edges it defensively.

    Why bother though?

He wasn’t even the best at our club let alone in the PL

That's debatable. But considering we had the best defence overall, both could have got in TOTS.

Fabian Schar made more tackles, more interceptions, and both featured in the best defence in the league, and Schar definitely contributed more offensively.

Offensive contributes should matter to CB if they matter to fullback.

Why are we only talking about Schar and Botman? There are other CBs in the league.

Dias, for example, who was better than either of them.

26 league games and 43 overall? Hardly a sick note.

    Akinji and Saliba also ahead.

Imagine Schar having to deal with that dustbin for a left back. He'd have looked terrible. Now consider how good Botman looked having to mop up the dust bins mess. Botman was very clear of Schar. Schar was still good though

Schar was good, lot of errors. So basically, no.

For me Schar is the Titus Bramble playing alongside a fit Jonathan Woodgate (Botman)

Schar is a very good player imo. Botman looks a bit more flash as he charges round more but you can see Schar's experience. He's a bit more economical with his work. For some reason people will pull Schar up on his mistakes more than Botman. He's class too mind you.
