If our stance over the compensation to Swansea is an indicator of Solak's MO as Chairman then I suspect we'll see some eye watering fees being demanded.
What pisses me off is when journalists/broadcasters say we are asking too much for our players, and that we need to lower our valuations purely because we've been relegated. Meet the valuation or sign someone else.
My main concern with the high fees is that it drags it out over the summer. The players might all be happy to tow the line and say “happy to play wherever” publicly in June, but come mid August their tune might (and usually does) change. Then we end up with an unhappy player and not much time to find a replacement if we sell for a smaller fee. Im of the mindset that anyone who isn’t committed to being here next season we should be looking to move on ASAP. This may be a lot of players, and we shouldn’t be getting fleeced over the transfer fee. But demanding £50m or whatever it was for someone like JWP is ridiculous when it is obvious he isn’t going to be here next year. Nobody is going to pay that, just sell him for the £30m or whatever realistic value we can then move on to finding his replacement. The club should already have a list of players they are sure will leave, whether that’s one’s they are trying to get rid of, or whether that’s one’s they expect to go because of interest from elsewhere. Get as much as possible for everyone on this list then look at building the squad for next year
I have no idea why any club would think Livramento would go for £12m? That doesn't even get you a top championship player these days
I'm a believer that relegation should not mean we let players go on the cheap just because they don't want to be in the Championship. Transfermarkt has Declan Rice at €90m and JWP at €38m. Rice has one year left on his contract, JWP has three (or is it four?). I'm not suggesting that JWP cost as much as Rice, JWP is 5 years older and not as good ... but, West Ham have just turned down £80m + addons from Man City and so we should be demanding a good fee for JWP. For me, transfermarkt have it about right (~€38m / ~£33m), possibly even more.
Ah ok ... is that his decision or the club's? Scratch that - just re-read and saw you said it was the club's!
I was thinking he will finish his deal and go for free onto some obscenely expensive three year deal at a top European club, then finish off his career with the now mandatory golden handshake tour. But allegedly it is a thing that Bayern only start bidding when a player is 99.9% going to them, they will just continue until it happens. Don’t know the ins and outs of German football, but that’s what I’ve been reading.
Cant really see any reason why spurs would stand in Kanes way this time. Just tell Bayern to stump up 75m and we all get on with our lives.
If Kane is available for that cheap, surely United/Chelsea/Arsenal/Madrid.. anyone with a bit of cash should be in as well. I can see there being a huge bidding war
Levy is refusing point blank to sell to an English club. And hell would freeze over before Kane joined Arsenal.
Yeah I can’t see us getting £30m or whatever for Livramento. Be good business if we do. He’s had one good season and then done his ACL. Newcastle valuing him around £12m seems about right from their perspective. Put the shoe on the other foot and how would you feel if someone was asking for £30m from us for someone they paid £5m for 2 years ago and missed an entire season with an ACL injury
