    ‘Simms preference is Sunderland’
Ellis Simms has been linked with many Championship clubs this summer, with seemingly half of the second tier interested in his services ahead of the 2023-24 season.

Just yesterday it was suggested that Everton may use him as a makeweight in a potential deal for Coventry City’s Viktor Gyokeres.

However according to Lancs.Live, as Blackburn Rovers are said to be one of the clubs interested in him, Simms’ preference is a return to the Stadium of Light where he had a successful loan spell in the first half of last season.

One of the worst, yet also the best, penalty shoot outs ever that.
    Brilliant.

Absolutely ridiculous. You have to think, how much are moves like this just an opportunity for people close to the lads to brag? Chelsea, the club that spunks millions on goal keepers rather than develope.

Seems to me like he's one of these players who needs to find a home....somewhere he feels like he belongs....he's punting about at the minute hoping for it,but hasn't found it yet. Could be he's punting at a higher level than he should be,but if he finds somewhere,he maybe can grow into the higher level he's ultimately looking for.

Looking forward to finding out exactly how the Chris Rigg contract is explained by the club later. I'm really confused by it.

My understanding is that if he signs a 2 year scholarship today, which takes him up until he's 18, it makes very little difference and that next summer as soon as he turns 17 he will be able to sign a professional deal with anybody else. The compensation we get wouldn't be that high.

So the only difference its bringing, as far as I know, is that he isn't going yet. The big "securer" is his first professional deal.

Obviously its great he is staying now and it bodes well for future. I just hope that people aren't misinterpreting this as meaning he's secured now and we will end up getting a big fee if he does leave etc.

    Correct

Means very little other than he isn’t going right now (which if you’re an optimist I suppose may suggest to you that there’s a chance he won’t go even in 2 years time because he clearly he likes it here etc)

    I am not an optimist

Shouldn't we look on it slightly differently though.....he's committed to us now....if we progress as we all hope,he'll have opportunity with us to progress his career alongside? Why do we need to assume,at this stage, he isn't going yet,but will at some point later?

It’s a good sign that a couple of loans we’ve had here (Amad & Simms) say their preference would be to come back here rather than the other clubs chasing them.
Another sign that our management are doing the right things.

I'm not assuming anything - I'm just wanting to make sure people aren't thinking he's "secured" in the way a normal contract would, is all.
