Don't know if anyone on here was there, but a normally well-informed mate said Huw was dropping hints at the "Jacks in London" night that they'd kept a little bit back "a lá Borini" for January for if we need it. Didn't say it in so many words, but I'd wager if Brendan thought it would be the difference between us staying up or not, he'd be able to spend about £1.5/2mil.
Probably a good shout. Looks like Borini is making a few waves in Italy though, so I'd be surprised if he fancied it!
The fact that we are doing well might be an inducement. He has always said that he wanted to play in the PL. He wouldn't fancy a relegation struggle but he just might be tempted if we are still making waves in January.
What waves is that, I may be missing something here, but he's only scored 1 goal, I'm not sure that he'll enjoy the Italian kill the game football, Borini will be frustrated soon enough I think! Only my view Scott, of course if I've missed anything, let me know....................... please log in to view this image
Only one goal? Mad! I'll have a dig now, he started a couple of games and did well by all accounts. There was a few people raving about him, but having said that it has gone a bit quiet so you never know! If he went over there thinking he'd be first XI off the back of scoring goals in the Championship he'd have been sadly mistaken, so maybe he would fancy it? Fabio! Come home! What say you Huw and Buck?
Don't think we will see Borini this season, as he has signed for Roma for the entire season, well according to this link http://socceranchor.com/index.php?o...ason-long-loan&catid=41:latest-news&Itemid=29
Although they've signed him for the season, surely that can end early though if both parties agree???? Saying that, I don't think we'll be seeing him either mind, just wishful thinking...
We dont have to spend millions to get good players wh are capable of performing in the PL. just take a look at how we are doing. Spending doesnt always breed success. Stick to our guns we will still be good enough to stay in the league. But i do hope we make 1 or 2 signings.
people using blackpool not strengthening last season as a reason why we must, are crazy, we're not blackpool for one and this is this year and not last year, i'm not saying we should'nt bring in anyone, but there's no guarentee bringing in new player's in january will have any effect on performances. apart from cover(full back) the only person i'd change in the team is gower, if we can get that youngster from chelsea we'll be sorted. vorm/tremmel rangel/richards williams/monk caulker/venglas(not sure if i got right name, lad we signed on a short term contract) taylor/ allen/gower britton/augustien boy from chelsea/situ dyer/moore sinclair/routledge grayham/lita cover for full back and we got 2 tidy sides.
to complacent, we need a few players yet, we still have not won an away match and Blackpool are an exellent example of what can go wrong if you think we have made it.....the hardest part is yet to come an we need to be ready. A few injuries with key players and we could be in trouble,
Our second side looks more like a strong NPC team to me rather than PL quality. Nothing wrong with that as we are not likely to have to use too many of them at once. The odd 1/2/3 slotting in with the "first teamers" will do a decent job for us. However, I would still like to see another 2 or 3 quality additions. As the season unfolds the squad will suffer the usual injuries, suspensions, loss of form etc and, as we all know, the depth in quality of the squad is vital at this level. The relegation places are likely to be decided by just a point if not goal difference so, bearing the huge financial rewards at stake, we should spend as much as we can possibly afford to give us our best chance. How galling would it be to miss out on another £40 million plus for the sake of spending an extra couple of million. I know we still might be relegated even if we do spend in January but we should give ourselves the best possible chance of staying up with a little judicious investment.
Yes but spending money to stay up is a gamble, things can swiftly go wrong as in hulls case, yes players get injured and key ones could , like caulker or augustien , but we have fared well regardless . I really can't see us spending anything beyond loans to be honest.
then we will more than likely go down jager, im with Ivor on this .....we have the money and thats what clubs who are serious about staying up do. we are guaranteed £90+ million whether we stay up or go down...Its no good sitting in the bank when we can use a small fraction of it to enable us to compete with our rivals in trying to stay up......Morgan will make sure brendan gets his targets if the money is right......
Dai the £90m is spread out over 5 years though if we go down, its £40m in the first year, we have spent £10m in the summer already, we have increased salaries to all players for going up, I would say that is going to cost £20m or so for wages, we have the academy to fund and possible stadium expansion also, I would say we have spent or will do about £35m of the money this season. So really can't see anybody being bought, because we need to pay for loanees if they come in from clubs
jager, I agree that we must be careful. There's a cricket analogy here where the skipper tells his batsmen that it's vital that they get as many runs as possible in double quick time..... but don't take any risks. It's a balancing act isn't it? I qualified my post with "as much as we can possibly afford" and "a little judicious investment". It would be beyond tragic if we failed by a point or so because we passed on a player(s) that might have cost us a couple of million more than we wanted to spend (transfer/wages) but who might well have made the difference. I would just implore us to be flexible in our approach. Let's not be hidebound by rigid financial disciplines just for the sake of it. I hope that if we do have this sort of decision to make we will opt for investment to give us a chance. I'm not talking about ridiculous figures here where we would gamble silly money in an attempt to buy our place next season - more a situation that is borderline, where extending ourselves just a bit further than we would like would give us a realistic chance of staying up.
jager Its guaranteed, so its definitely ours...and dont you think we should use some of that to make sure we are in with the best chance possible of adding another £40 mill to the coffers. i certainly think it is....
Yes the club are guaranteed it, but £40m this season, and I believe circa £16m a year spread out over a further 4 years. Spending money clubs don't currently have is why so many have problems, using money of a future season has been done most recently by Cardiff with their season ticket fiasco, sorry but I don't think the board will sanction funds from different financial years being used early.
in the sun today they recon brendan's after 4 player's in january, mceachan(chelsea)loan, situ will be one also i think, so who will be the other's(positions)
Situ is already ours and has been training with the team since signing, and will be available as our player as soon as the transfer window opens, barring any more contractual insanity from FIFA, so it'll be McEachran and 3 others I guess! Arsenal have got that Coquelin guy and Frimpong looks good too, any other ideas?
