Beale should never have been allowed an exit clause within his first season with us. It completely derailed our season. Should never have been signed off on.
It's likely to have been one of Beale's conditions for coming to QPR that he had such a clause. QPR management took the risk, in return for getting a known, talented coach at Prem level. The gamble didn't pay off, and as you say, we were knocked off balance. Critchley seemed a panic appointment. Ainsworth was then brought in to assuage fans dissatisfaction.
I'd say GA was the panic appointment. I don't think Critchley was ill-considered, thought he was on the shortlist along with Beale, I might be wrong but he was seen as a similar to Beale in his outlook and development beliefs albeit a much different character.
Fair enough. May be I should have said the way Critchley performed for us, he seemed like a panic appointment...
Regardless of whatever people think of him our club has had several poor seasons in the bottom half, that came to an end under Warburton until the DoF, for whatever reason, didn't renew his contract. This season went from potentially our best to our worst on his decisions after Beale left so really he had to go, it's a results game...
Absolutely. Les is a legend for us and seems like a nice, honest, guy. But it’s business. On results, after over 9 years in the position, we really haven’t developed enough across the board. Plenty of poor decisions and panic decisions. But most of all we haven’t improved enough and there’s been enough time. Now we need to change and pay good money to bring in the right DoF.
What does all this mean for new signings ? Will we have to wait until someone is put in place , before Ainsworth is allowed to bring anyone in ? Another joke situation , where we might not have brought any players in with just a couple of weeks until the season starts !
I think that maybe Sir Les was to influent at QPR. I certainly wouldn't mind either StephenGallen or Mark Warburton taking the reins both good football men.
Let's not forget that Warburton went on a terrible run at the end of his last season which saw what we all thought was a playoff position disappear rapidly. After backing him with a few quid.
I think that was after his fallout with Les, we also had massive injury list. Overall we were far more stable with Warburton. It would be intriguing to see how he and Ainsworth would fit...
I’d be hugely surprised if Warbles ends up back at the Mighty Rs. I’m not sure that him leaving the Hammers after European success necessarily points to a return to LR. He probably wants to return to club management and thinks his year at WHU has earned him that right. But there was a lot of stuff said about his departure from QPR at the time that suggested (if true) that his approach wasn’t wholly aligned with others in key positions at the club, such as the unwillingness to develop players out of the lower strands into the first team.
From WLS: And, following discussions with current head coach Gareth Ainsworth about transfer targets for the coming season, Ferdinand decided to stand down. Strange one
In other words, Ainsworth told him who he'd like to bring in and Les said no them. Ainsworth went to the Owners and said either he goes or I go. I guess they chose Ainsworth !
I think its harsh to blame the board/SLF for Beales contract, had Glasgow Rangers not sacked their manager he may have stayed & we had a very different 2023. The appointment was always going to be a risk but it brought us the majority of last seasons points. El Tel was always going on to bigger things in the early 80's but we got good out of him before he went, I was hoping the same was going to happen with Beale. We bought in the best we could at the time, unfortunately we weren't big enough to keep him. If we're a selling club that sometimes counts for the gaffer as well.
Genuine question here: Gallen was part of the QPR coaching and academy set up for many years, during which time there has been, with only a couple of notable exceptions, a very poor supply of young talent making it to the first team. If our business model sees this as our lifeline and/or path to success, why would we put him in overall charge of it again as our new Director of Football?
Absolutely. Not that he isn’t a good guy. But doing the same thing, with the same thought and expecting a different result is a common fault at the top. We need to go outside. Dowling looks like a worthy consideration. Has been involved with Watford and WBA and Notts Florist in a similar role. Time to benefit from his experience?
