Went down to Bridgend, with my Missus today to visit my son and his new(ish) wife train down about 11:00 some civilised nosh and a few drinks jumped on the 4:30 train and got into Cardiff 5'ish (a fire at Cardiff Central) My Missus wants to go to Sainsburys, so I "volunteer" to go straight home and feed and walk the dogs...............nothing to do with the football being on honest ;)

Anyway I'm waiting for the bus, and quite a few Welsh fans are walking down Wood St on their way in to town from the CCS, a woman and a boy about 10 are walking past.

"Excuse me love" says I "what was the result?"

Well the kid flys at me

"What's it got to do with you........if you had any interest you would have been at the game"

"Well I had stuff to do" says I

    "Excuses, excuses" he says

"I've not missed a Wales game at home since I was five......and only two away games, people like you who pretend they are interested are stupid........even if you couldn't go it was on the radio"

By this time we've attracted a knot of people, his mother is trying to shut him up, but a few lads who had obviously had a few beers are egging him on (nothing menacing or malicious, just banter)

    Things like

"go on son you tell him"

    and

"yeah you should be ashamed of yourself"

    "call yourself a football fan"

    loads of stuff like that.

His mother was clearly embarrassed and managed to shepherd the kid away.

Had a laugh with the lads, and then the bus came.

I was sat on the bus and thought to myself, if he'd been a bit older I could have given the cheeky little ****er some of his own medicine.

    But then again could I?

    No for two reasons

1/ I would probably have been lynched.

    and

2/ and most importantly in my heart of hearts........I knew he was right.

Capello missed his son's wedding to be at the Ingerlund match. Your excuse wes feeble by comparison Proph.

Don't take this the wrong way, but no one would have missed you not being there. The FA would have been a bit miffed if Fabio was a no show.

Be consoled that WE know you are a real football fan.

You missed a good performance though. Bellamy and Bale were class, ably supported by the rest of the team.

it riles me that people can criticise others people foortball loyalties because they don'y go to every game. My folks didn't have a lot of money yet still my father could the money together to take me to as many Cardiff league games as possible. Cup games were a luxury as were away games and internationals. Did that make us any less loyal to the team? No.

Just because some little upstart and jumped on the bandwagon and started following Wales when they are doing well does not give him him the right to have a pop any someone for not going. the fact we are getting at most 20,000 per game now compared to 70,000 against Italy, Agentina, Germany etc there's another 50,000 missing fans the little **** should be having a go at.

And i'll bet he supports Manyoo. Rant over.

Proph, I wasn't as the game either yesterday.

Id definately asked him what club side he supports!

If hed said any English club sides you could have wiped the floor with him.

Met a bunch of N Walians after a Welsh game a few years back. They had a pop at us because we couldnt speak Welsh.

Turned out they all supported Everton. They really threw their dummies out when we asked why dont they go and support England if they want to support scouse team.

Now I really would have enjoyed putting that bunch of gogs to rights. Since when does speaking a minority language (with apologies to all Welsh speaking City fans) make them anymore Welsh than me. Bloody bisexual road signs and utility bills!!!!

one of my pet hates........idiots claiming i'm not as welsh as them 'cos i don't speak the language.
wasn't born in a welsh speaking area...simple as........i was on holiday on south coast of england
when this welsh (west) guy suggested i should be ashamed to call myself welsh cos i couldn't speak
the lingo....anyway, got a punch in the gob when i suggested his parents efforts would have been
better served teaching him manners rather then welsh.....i had the last laugh, though.....and boy
    was it worth it.....yaccky da

Bloody hell, I hate itwhen the debate turns to the language. It's not the language that's the problem, but people. Can we please ease off, there are morons on both sides of that fence.
As for you proph. I know you like to have a bit of a barney but this bloke needed a slap.

It's great fun being with someone who does speak it when those type of idiots start shooting their mouths off because you don't, especially if you like a barney. Well it was but I may be a bit old for that now.

The "Welsh Mafia" have a lot to answer for, I'm proud to be Welsh, I used to speak Welsh as a nipper with my Welsh speaking mamgu.............very rusty now, I can get the gist of a conversation in Welsh, but I wouldn't claim to speak Welsh, the reverse snobbery of some of the Welsh speaking mafia disgusts me, the genuine Welsh speakers just speak the language.............I am proud of my Welsh heritage and the Welsh language, but some of these "Welsh speakers" are the worst kind of "professional" Welshman, they have no real love for the language or culture, OK they discuss the mabinogion in Welsh when they are stood at the bar, is that because they have a deep interest in Welsh classical literature, or are they saying "look at me, look how clever I am" pseudo-intellectual luncheon voucher intelligentsia, a bunch of pricks and not a good advert for the country they purport to love <ok>
