can't afford to. whether that is because the owners say we have to manage our own finances or not is largely irrelevant. why? because expecting billionaires to float in and do a jack walker and throw masses of cash in is exactly what the oil states do. the new for rules are a half arsed attempt to finally force clubs to spend what's generated not what's injected. the problem is they are at the same time allowing the Saudi state artificially inflate newcastles revenues to laugh at the rules. it is that simple. it's not lfc's money being spent. it's fans money paid to lfc via TV, via merchandising, via match day revenues, via sponsorships who want out money. the more clubs chase dopers the more fans have to pay and pay. the people laughing are corrupt officials who get gifts on their pillows, agents and players. the people who are in the end paying for it are ordinary fans.
He didn't, he was responding to me. I asked how Arsenal's 84pts would have done in previous PL season purely out of curiosity.
the 40 pts was only really the safety point when it was a 42 game season just took lots of people to adjust after the reduction to 38
40pts was definitely a thing during 38 game seasons. I can't recall the 42 game seasons (didn't follow footy that closely back then)
only for first 2-3 seasons and then high(ish) 30's would do though in 2003 WHam get relegated with 42pts
As stated above... I was omitting season where City won as the original thing I was replying to was about whether anyone else has been good enough lately besides us. But even at 29% is still pretty decent. I think we're both making same point though... About how City makes it impossible to win with lower scores these days that could have won in the past
Lower points tally used to win the league because you didn't have to be near perfect to win it. Now you do.
Whats why i specifically asked for 12 years. Thats when city started winning the title. the facts remain that oil dopers win the title now. for others to win it require a massive error. IN leicester's time all of city, cheslea and utd were having issues. utd are STILL having issues (not oil doper) cheslea won the title since (dopiers) and city have dominated (dopers) we had to get 99 points despite city not really being close due to self inflicted lack of cover at CB to win one. we won't win another with this side. Doping means small teams even at home have little chance of even getting close to a draw, thats the reality.
Highish 30s would suggest 40pts is the safety point. I recall that 42pts, it was when a very young old Defoe handed in a transfer request before the relegation dust had settled
That is part of it, I agree but it's not one thing on its own. The top 4-6 weren't perfect but the competition between them was a lot closer - among themselves and the points they took off others. I think there were a number of factors which contributed, and how others are performing now is just as much a factor as City's spending, and their manager.
I think we're going to have to get used to a situation where the likes of us, Man utd, Arsenal and now Chelsea will be good enough to push City in one season but then have a season of transition in the following season - or at least that's what I'm hoping is the case with Liverpool anyway.
or we actually break football and these guys go **** off back home to a middle east wide league with all the best players and nobody cares about it. if we make it impossible to dope they will do precisely that. if we don't then we will be ineffect letting the oil states dope football for their own agendas.
One is clearly a consequence of the other. While there are always unexpected results against every team including city, most teams playing them give up before they start. The psychological barrier now is huge. Ask Arsenal this season.
I disagree here. I think the teams below City (and Liverpool) over the past 5 yrs have been ****. City are largely irrelevant to that fact. I said earlier, you could take out City, replace them with any title winners of the past 40 yrs and the likes of United, Chelsea, Arsenal of the past 5 yrs still wouldn't come close.
