It's already cost £85m of that, mainly due to them employing 60 barristers to collate and check all the evidence before the hearings that started today. Farcical.
To prove the point of how stupid some are, watching tipping point and the question is which major war in Asia took place between 1950 and 1953. The woman gave the answer "was it world war 2"
Any quiz show will confirm that. Eurovision Weakest Link, BBC1 Romesh Ranganathan: Name the Archbishop of Canterbury murdered in Canterbury Cathedral in 1170. Cheryl Baker: Chaucer. The Chase, ITV Bradley Walsh: Which famous statue is popularly referred to as “The Gateshead Flasher”? Contestant: The Statue of Liberty. Tipping Point, ITV Ben Shephard: The Strait of Messina separates which island from the Italian mainland? Retired merchant navy seaman: I think it’s Turkey. Radio 2 Gary Davies: Complete the title of this album by the Beatles: Rubber... Caller: Dinghy.
You're not a Private Eye reader by any chance? Their Dumb Britannia section has some fantastic examples.
I thought the Covid inquiry barrister was making the exact opposite point only today, that we didn't have a plan and almost all of the planning was around a flu epidemic? Mind you, we've run out of tinfoil in the kitchen so who knows?
Yes, I lifted it from there. An ex Labour minister in one celebrity quiz programme said that the son of Henry Vlll was Henry Vll.
Not as bad as young Americans. But we are getting there. Love the way he just resignedly says yes to each dumb answer. There are a load of these on you tube.
There's been a change in education needs. Facts and geography are in an encyclopedia in all of our pockets now... Far more than anyone can remember. Ask and film a random group of 75 year olds to write some simple code or even set up a smartphone and you'd get a similar response.
A somewhat spurious comparison. This 73 year old has no problems with a smartphone. Though coding is another thing. I wonder what coding would be like when done by people who can’t divide 33 by 11 or multiply 3x 3 x 3. Someone not knowing how many months in a year in their 20s is laughable. No need for any education if it is all in our pockets then. No need for teachers.
Leave it out Castro! There were people 50 years ago who couldn't divide 33 by 11 or work out 3x3x3, it's not just the current generation. When they're all old ****s like us they'll know allsorts that their young generation has no clue about.
I find it funny to think that few people get 100% in an exam, and there is little to no feedback on the results, so qualified people could be going around not knowing that 30 to 40% of the things they think they know are actually wrong.
