Rice is a very good PL player, but I thought that game showed how far he is off being world class. Bowen was excellent tonight though, saw very little of the ball yet when he did get it he put in a couple of dangerous crosses, won a penalty, and scored the winner. He also put in some very good defensive work. Pretty good performance for someone who went straight from non-league into a European final.
It's what we expect, sadly. I remember when Nicky Barmby came to City, Ex-England international, and all the HDM were interested in was that he was a Hull Fc supporter, appartently. Jarrod Bowen has been magnificent since he left City but it was Hull City who made him. I was sat amongst his family at Birmingham away (I didn't know who they were) a few season back when he was going through a bit of a barren spell for City and getting a bit of stick. I told the old guy sat next to me that he would come good and I was speaking to his grandad apparently. I said the lad's got everything. And he has. Good luck to him.
Maybe when they mentioned Hereford as a non league club they didn't want to class us as the same, showing us some respect?
I have a friend who is actually a football agent and when we we’re holding back on his sale told me no way is he a 20 million pound player 6 months later he said he got it wrong
Wonderful to see Jarrod get the winning goal, some year for him so far, Twins and then this, he must be on cloud 9.
I used to watch him a lot in the U23's and you could see he was a class apart. I stood next to Mike Phelan one evening at Bishop Burton and chatted with him, and he said he would go on to be an EPL player.
I saw Bowen play at Upton Park in an U21 final against West Ham. He was head and shoulders above his teammates, but he wasn't the best player on the pitch. That was a young man called Martin Samuelsen. We ended up signing him, and he was so bad that I actually had to Google to remember his name. The difference between them was hard work and attitude. For all his talent, Bowen still worked very hard to improve, e.g. his ability to cross with his right foot, his defending etc. He absoulutely deserves his success.
Moyes prioritised Europe and won the competition whilst avoiding relegation. Bruce ****ed our only European campaign for a measly point at Stoke and we still got relegated anyway. Unforgivable really.
Let's hear from the Player of the Match Jarrod Bowen who scored the last-minute winner for West Ham. When asked how he was feeling, he said: "I can't sum up [my emotions]. It is the best feeling I have ever had in my career, the best moment. When I went through I had a lot of time and it was just make sure you put the ball away. The keeper started to rush out of his goal and I thought 'that is my moment to strike' because he couldn't then set himself. "I don't know if I fell over but I looked up and the ball was going in and I was just 'this is not happening'. To score a winner in the last minute to bring trophy to club is the best moment of my career." And on the victory and fans: "I don’t want to use relief as a word but we knew how close we were with the disappointment of Frankfurt [West Ham lost a Europa League semi-final last season]. "I saw the fans, noise they made, numbers that came in. I am proud to do it for my teammates, the coaching staff but I think for the fans as well. You see what it means after the game, I'm a bit stuck for words. Best feeling of my life. I never thought in my wildest dreams as a young boy growing up I would win a European trophy." BBC
