True story - Your thoughts are appreciated.

A very close mate of mind is starting to do some things that concern his wife and all of us.

A year ago, he hoped into our car to direct us to his friends place ( we were visiting in Sydney ) ….. anyway, instead of directing us to turn left at the corner of the block, he said to turn right, cross over the other side of the highway, circle another block, just to come straight back to where we started from…… yet he grew up in the area! It has happened more than once.

His wife just told us that he has spent years walking after dinner which is fine but lately, he stopped going on walks and spends much time walking around his car, in the double garage.
A double garage here in Oz is about 6 metres x 6 metres or less.

He apparently stays in there for up to an hour,
walking round and round. This has to be a worry!

    Any thoughts?

Yes, that was our initial thoughts as well, not that we have any medical knowledge, just experiences with family members.
    Appreciate your thoughts.

    Maybe he loves his car
I spend a lot of time in the garage but that's only because that's where the beer fridge is
A trip to the doctor won't hurt but there must be other things he's doing to have the wife worried

He does have a new car but he also has a Fitbit type watch and is noted to walking and watching it………

    The car sits idle.

The fact that he continues to walk round & round the garage is the worry.

When l talk to him and ask him what’s new, everything reverts straight to old comments of tv shows ( Seinfeld ) ….. thing we use to do, etc. Nothing about todays events.

    Definitely sounds like dementia.
I always use the analogy of a bookshelf….all your recent memories are the books at the top….and the things that happened years ago are the books at the bottom.
Dementia is the thing that comes and shakes the bookshelf, causing all the recent memories to fall over and become more confused, whereas the memories from years ago are more solid and stay more in order.

Hope all that make sense. Your friends wife needs to seek help.
Does he get angry and irritated sometimes ?

He’s normally a placid sort of guy and doesn’t show much emotion. The biggest hurdle l think is getting his wife to acknowledge he may have a problem. They’re not proactive people. My wife & l could see some issues some time ago but have struggled to gently get the message across.

    Again, appreciate your thoughts.

1 in 15 patients don't turn up for hospital appointments.

Cost to the NHS - £1.2 billion per annum.

This needs to be sorted before more water is poured into a bucket with holes in it.

If Labour come to power, this is one of the issues Wes Streeting needs to address

    Time will tell mate.
Not meaning to court attention or be purposely vague.
A fair bit going on and hopefully over the next few weeks it will all be clarified.
    Thanks for the concern.
