Yeah that's it, my bro's were in the latter. I think there was another one in Dover they called home for a while as well.
The only thing I can think of is intent. The guy jailed today was planning an actual terrorist attack and had been putting information together on police stations etc. He was planning on commiting murder imminently. This guy seems to be a loud mouth and mainly sharing material online. Not sure if he had any planned out terrorist attacks? I could be miles off like.
You could be right Saf, but I imagine if this guy is a muslim making homemade bombs and a gun and giving it large on twatter and facebook.... he aint coming out mate
But was he a muslim really? or was he just a nutter that sought a religion as an excuse for his adolescent fantasist of power (desire to kill), on a journey to cause death and destruction to feed his ****ed up brain. I'm not sure I agree myself with his 'claim' of religion, that of being a muslim. He converted when he was 16, he's only 19 now, so it would have ocurred during lockdown. Even the mosque he attended rejected him, after previously warning him about his behaviour. He said something about death to all non-muslims, well he was a non-muslim as far as I'm aware until he started going down his warped path. He was just a nutter, that chose to tarnish a religion with his behaviour, afterall the majority of muslims wouldn't accept his behavior and rejected him as part of the course. At least a mother can hope to get her son back now sometime in the distant future, rather than him being another dead body on some sick cause to jutify their existence.
I couldn't agree more. But the label is there, muslim extemist or islamist. Shame, as the terms are a perversion of people's faith and in the minds of many demonises the religion so it's seen as supporting terrorism. Enough folk out there will buy that and all it does is cause hate and division... and that's really where the extremists win. My point though is once you slap a label on someone, demonise a section of society directly or indirectly, how do our institutions then treat everyone with that label? So for example my first awareness of this was the Bradford riots twenty yrs ago which was a reaction to the National Front marching through muslim areas in different towns. They'd been through Oldham and other places up here and intimidated ppl. The day before the riots in Bradford they'd attacked ppl and property and the police done fck all to protect them. They were done for disorder not rioting. A couple of days later (can't remember exactly) they turned up in Bradford the muslim community were ready for them. Don't get me their actions aren't being condoned here, but the coppers targetted them and even though they pleaded guilty they were handed sentences of 6 7, 8 yrs the longest ever when previous riots had sentences of 2 yrs. They were eventually reduced on appeal lol.
What got me thinking was the claim the lad was a converted muslim, but it's then I think to myself, what makes him a converted muslim anymore than me, I come from a CoE family, so likewise, what made me a christian anymore than him, because I've always been undecided on my faith, regardless of what my parents and grandparents wanted me to practice. For example you know my hatred of Blair, should I call myself a muslim to satisfy my desire to rid the world of him. It's not difficult to spot the religion of people that practice it, but the trouble with media we can only guage by the way a story is written - and apart for the usual words being banded around, I read nothing that said he was muslim before he was 16 (he may of been), I read nothing to state the religion of his family as a guide and as I said, the muslim community (mosque) had already told him, oi on yer bike lad.
There's not a lot of information before lockdown when they say he disappeared down the rabbit hole of radicalisation. Maybe like you say he was angry about something and saw this particular group's message as the answer? But then, you have to ask the question how much of a muslim (or muslims) were the ppl who brainwashed him? Even if he wasn't really a muslim, someone claiming to be muslim told him this is how the faith can provide the answer for him. Unfortunately at some point in the chain there's a twisted mentality among some out there who will pervert a faith. That's true everywhere btw, of all faiths but like you say how much emphasis is put on one set of ppl over another is how the media write the story.
From what I gather he claimed to hate the West. Well I've said a fair few things about the West, America, EU and NATO in my time, so does that make me an extremist, a converted muslim one....er nope. The guy was just a fruit loop on a mission.
They're all fcking fruit loops We'll only know for sure if/when he comes out. He'll either renounce all his actions and find the true faith. Or it was all bollox and he'll go back to who he was.
