I'm sure we'll sign a keeper regardless of whether he'd be number 1. We'll want two senior goalkeepers at the club and we only have one currently.
Yeah, no point having supposedly 2-3 good young keepers at the club for that one position, that might come up once a season.
The post above mine was suggesting that the young keeper would be used “once a season” hence my comment.
At what point is a young, supposedly good enough for a League 1 side, good enough to sit on the bench, but not good enough to be first choice if the need arises? We seem to treat our youth team as just players who might come on in the 70th minute onwards, not start in the cup competitions. Yes we’ve had a few recently, but most people are more interested in bringing in new players from other clubs. If these kids, especially the keepers, aren’t good enough, why do we even bother with them? What if they are needed for just 1 game, is Ingram going to sit on the bench all season, on the off chance he’s needed for 1 game?
Ingram has seen off a couple of supposedly first choice keepers and darlow could be the next. The club make sure he gets a decent run at it when he gets an opportunity and he does well. But we want two players competing in every position. All in my opinion as i know nowt
Lo-tutala is very good but needs games/experience now. I think he'll go on loan this season Robson has potential to be a good keeper and again I think will go out on loan. Cartwright I don't think will make the grade at championship level.
Really? Wasn’t he viewed as a top English prospect in the keeper department just last pre season? Seems like the other 2 on our cards are bulkier than Harv which seems to be his downfall, struggles dominating his area.
He's just struggling to make the next step and push on, I think he'll have a shot at a pro career, but I think it'll be lower leagues. He needs to go play regularly and stay injury free
Don't forget though, the squad is dynamic, we don't start the season saying "right, here's the first XI, you lot are on the bench until May." Young players can be **** one minute and fantastic the next. I remember watching Danny Emerton play for us in pre season against York ages ago and thinking he looked ready for the first team. That didn't happen. Some players start out talented and get better or worse, some start out not as good and then find their niche. Magennis was a goalkeeper until he turned 19. In fact, he was on the bench for Cardiff as their reserve goalkeeper when they played Liverpool in the Carling Cup in 2008 (yes, I had to look that up to remember the game/year), I can't recall any other player being a goalkeeper and then becoming an outfield player for the rest of their career. Would love to know if there were more. (How's that for a tangent?!)
I wonder who the left-back we’re close to getting is? Either Toffolo or Manning would be my guess but Manning will have his pick of clubs and I think he’ll go to Southampton or Leeds.
