I don't want to break this thread, but I had chilli mushy peas last night. You might think that chilli mushy peas shouldn't work ... and you'd be right, although they had a nice kick. I had them with steak pie, chips and gravy. I'd had a little taster of the peas on the way so cunningly doused them with gravy, which was doubly useful for the veritable ****ton of shortcrust pastry (puff pastry is for southerners and wierdos). In the end it was ace.
Spicy mushy peas sounds promising actually and you're spot on about puff pastry. Its got to be shortcrust every time. My mother-in-law finally taught Mz Kempton how to make shortcrust pastry, god bless her. You have to have cold hands apparently. She certainly has those...
