Just seen that Middlesbrough’s pre season friendlies are equally compelling - at Hartlepool and York. I wonder if clubs have come to an arrangement to play lower league sides in pre season to help with Covid/financial recovery.
I don't think there's anything unusual about playing some lower league sides is there? It's odd that the Barnsley one is at home but the away ones seem pretty typical to me.
Exactly. I do sometimes wonder if we have people on here who only started following football this year. Friendlies announced so far for other Championship clubs include: Watford - Boreham Wood and Stevenage West Brom - Burton and Salford Bristol City - Portsmouth QPR - Oxford and AFC Wimbledon Sunderland - South Shields & Gateshead Stoke - Notts County, Derby, and Burton Birmingham - Northampton and Cheltenham Middlesboro - Hartlepool and York (as said by previous poster) We play lower league teams every year, like everyone else.
Yep, we always play lower league clubs and then a couple of foreign clubs, not sure how this year is any different.

As it was against a side at a high level than us I actually thought we put up a good performance and only lost it with a late goal. But then I am one of the strange people that can enjoy a defensive performance as much as an attacking one.
