Agree, very open. The bookies seem to think Lester, Leeds and S/ton will bounce back, just like Watfud and Norwich did last season !!!!! Not... I can't see Lester replacing the likes of Maddison, Barnes, Tielemans and Vardy with players at the same level...Norwich might struggle, Watfud might crash and burn. Massive FC won't do much. Ipswich might be the surprise package. Other than Mbro I can't really say there's a club who will be destined to be up there all year.

We concede chances and are bailed out by the goalkeeper and defenders, unsustainable way of playing. The aim is to win the ball back more in better areas and not having to be back to the wall everytime the opposition attacks

I think a lot will depend on Carrick being there as far as Boro are concerned. Leicester will be ok, what you have to factor in is what they can buy with the sale of those and I think listening to a Leicester fan friend of mine Vardy will see out the last year of his contract. Add the parachute payment in and they're in a strong position. Ditto Southampton cashing in on Ward Prowse. Ive had a £10 on Watford just having the 3 managers this year at 4/1...

Not sure I agree about Leicester. Income will be substantially cut, they'll have to have a firesale and won't get value for their assets as parachutes still represent a drop in income from circa 200m to around 70m. Vardy alone would be a massive contract (10% ish of that income by itself) in the championship for an aging player and one they'd probably rather get off the wagebill. They had to cut their cloth at the start of this season even before relegation. They need a massive restructure financially. For me Leicester have the potential to go either way.

I guess there’s two ways of looking at that though?

Are we not creating enough chances because as a team we have to focus more on defence because we lack a defensive midfielder? If we had one, would it free up our more creative players to take more chances knowing there is someone more able to stop the opposition?

To be fair our goals against suggests attacking players would need to be a priority, but the ability to win the ball back higher up the pitch and that little extra insurance against the counter would allow forward players to commit further forward than is currently possible.

I'd say a physical defensive midfielder could easily be worth 15 points over a season to us - IF we can score goals. But resources are finite and we may need to prioritise goals in this window. It would need to be a decent calibre DM to improve us. No sense in bringing in another Smallwood as its not going to improve us that much from where we are now.

I would argue a proper promotion chasing team could do with one in the squad, even if they didn’t always play.

Maybe that's how they see Simons developing?

I do see that position as key to being able to beat top 8 sides consistently enough to realistically chase promotion - but then so is a LB, RW, LW, GK and Striker.

The fact we finished pretty tight defensively (barring Sunderland and Middlesboro) under rosenior may sway decisions if budget is limited. I suspect a DM may depend on other players leaving.

He did! Can't remember exact words but it was either unique or v clearly implied unique.
That's why I dismiss the comparisons to Man C or Brighton's way of playing.
I've yet to see what's different, special, unique about our style. It seems pretty much the same as many clubs are now trying to play.

I recall that too, he definitely said we’d see a style of play that no other team was playing. Hopefully that’s not happened due to not having his favoured players available to play it. TWT.

That's twice a manager has been linked to us in the last two weeks.

I wonder if it's a mistranslation on their end and he's coming in as a staff role that's not the manager? No way is Rosie leaving unless he gets a better offer elsewhere and as of right now, that isn't the case.

Leister will lose some players as will Leeds. The Leicester fans have an issue with its owner. Leeds have hardly demonstrated they are a team to fear with the players they have now.

It really seems a stretch to look at it that way.

Given that our problem is creating chances, and that there's been a lack of available players in attacking areas all season, surely the absolutely obvious thing to do is address that issue; get a couple of wingers in and an extra striker and work on the injury situation so we're not constantly having to meff about with Longman or Pelkas up front or Docherty and Slater on the wings. Sort that out effectively and surely that gives us a very good chance of scoring the goals we need to turn our upper mid-table form from the second half of last season into promotion form.

The games we've lacked goals in we've generally had plenty of the ball but just lacked the attacking quality to turn it into chances and goals. It's really not the case that we sit deep and defend all the time because a lack of a big midfielder forces us to. That is fantasy stuff.

I actually feel if Seri was played further forward his eye for a pass could unlock defences, and a good defensive ball-winning midfielder would allow this to happen. Yes, we need more strength in attacking areas, but just a slight change like that could be fruitful.

Not a huge surprise but Billy Chadwick won the goal of the season in the TheVanarama NL North league.

I reckon this year is the year, this is the 10th year this saga has been rumbling on for now since we were first linked in the summer of 2013.
