Callum Jones, as well as Andy Smith, now have to be named on the 25-man squad list if we want to play them this season. Until now they were exempt due to being under 21s. I think it's hard to see them making the list unless we lose a lot of players.
His touch and ability to dribble at pace eclipses that of Adama/Seri though. All 3 are comfortably our most technically astute players with different strengths.
Figs has offers from Portugal, Greece and Scotland. Woods looks like he'll drop to League One unless there's interest from one of the promoted teams looking for a cheap deal, I will say he's been a consummate professional this season and it's just unfortunate how he hasn't really had a look in, but there's just more talented lads ahead of him. Can't fault his effort, just not as good as the alternatives we had. Fleming will be staying AFAIK, but it depends on pre season (he's actually 23 ). He's on a long contract and the thinking is that after looking at how Macca and Jones stepped up, he can also step up and have a good season under Rosenior. He was gone just after the window opened, so Rosie will want a proper look at him before making any decisions. Jones will probably end up in Ireland. Doc has suitors, but that move will depend on who we bring in. Rosenior really likes Xavier Simons (as do I, I think he'll have a great season) and I've heard Marc Leonard from Brighton might be coming in, though that might be one for the U21s (just checked, he's 21 so maybe not). He's a ball winning midfielder who just helped Northampton get promoted to League One and a Scotland U21s player. With Derby failing to get promoted and Brighton in Europe, I would expect to see a few of their players arrive. Derby have some very good young players, while Brighton will be looking to upgrade what they have and that might allow us to bring in a couple of their younger lads like we did with Longman.
Smith signed a two year deal at the start of the season, so either he'll go out on loan again (no doubt back to Grimsby) or he'll be sold. Again, it depends on pre season. It'd be lovely to see another home grown lad in there, he might have a worldie and end up like Greaves did.
i Hope we are are after some actual ringers and not just younger lads, especially Derby’s younger lads. The squad is not strong enough to leave solid first team signings by the wayside imo.
We have a decent average squad age as it stands, there won't be just 18 year olds coming in, but we're looking at players who will have value in the future. We don't need that much in terms of numbers, just some quality in the forward areas, a centre half and a first choice LB.
And a centre mid, we highlighted N’Diayshimie (poor spelling probably) and then never looked to sign a player of that profile again. If we don’t sign someone like that I’m concerned.
Same. I’ve heard we’re interested in Max Bird but he’s not a ball-winner either; he’s a deep-lying playmaker like Seri and Woods. I’d rather have Bielik and Simons can be his understudy for the ball-winning role.
Woods would be class in L2 / L1 - poor man's Seri (not meant disrespectfully). Would love to see Fleming being given a chance, step up as you say, and see him develop into our 1st choice LB.
If we don’t sign one I aren’t even going to bother getting that excited cause that is a huge oversight. Bielik would be one of my picks as well.
Smith has certainly stood up to Div 2 level like Greaves did at Cheltenham and could be seen as a backup to the CB position. Preseason will be key to that I guess.
I can see Tetteh leading the line if we plan to continue setting up like we did last season. I don't think it suits Oscar at all.
