I completely agree with the part in bold and I'm more disappointed we didn't make it for that reason than really I should be.

However, the fact that there might be 6-8 teams in with a shout of the top 2 may make it easier to get into that, rather then just the top 6, as it will stay close with everyone beating everyone else.

I've never looked forward to a new season as much as I am now. Missing the matches big style and I was totally convinced that if we played at Wembley yesterday we would've won! God it's great being a Sunderland fan at the minutes and bloody hell it's long overdue

I remember people saying that when we went down in 2017. It's bullshit. Relegation is never a good option

yeh it’s only ever good in hindsight if / once you’ve gone straight back up.

    If you don’t…

Definitely think we’ll be in the mix but again it depends on our transfer business. We managed to compete with a lot of injuries but I can’t remember another team ever making the play offs with 69 points, don’t even know if it’s ever happened since the championship was rebranded. Luton, Coventry, Millwall all being up there shows how bad the division was.

We play a brand of football that’s incredible to watch and we can only get better, but we need the players to allow it to happen because we can’t have another season with as many injuries as that and expect to be up there.

Now that Everton have stayed up, would people be happy to sign Simms on a permanent, or should we be looking for fresh talent?
Although he did alright for us I found him as infuriating as Gelhardt to watch.

Simms should definitely be on our radar for the right price

I’d honestly like to think there are better options than Simms out there.

We need a couple of strikers though at least. For me Simms would be ideal as Stewart cover as he can literally drop straight into our style of plate.

He now has added experience of the pressure at Everton so think he may be even better.

I'd be happy with Simms and Leaburn from Charlton.

I just feel like we are happy with Simms because we know he’s adequate rather than because we think he’s the right player. He’s kinda risk free so I get that. But I just think there must be better options personally

I think it's been the best thing that's ever happened to us.

Many would prefer us to be miserably circling the plughole year after year because the big league is the only place to be, but we're sitting here right now pretty much united as a fanbase, two really positive seasons on the bounce, a young team that are going to improve even further and a setup to succeed for years to come. That simply wouldn't have happened were we still grimly holding on to 17th place, two of the usual crap suspects as manager every year, bang average PL journeymen on huge money, only able to plan as far as the end of the season.

Yeah maybe. If Simms has high work rate he would be perfect. He didn't press too well. But if you want that and the goal threat that he offered guess it's much bigger money. I would take Simms and another.

This. We can get better than him for the money he’d cost us.

Id be happy with Simms AND the better option.

Simms, the better option and a fully fit (hopefully) Stewart would do me.

Surely the club know what Stewart's intentions are by now. How can you look for forward recruits if you don't know what he's doing. Buying Simms or whoever to play upfront or behind Stewart if they don't know if he's staying or actually going to get over his injury is a high risk.
Are we looking for two main strikers or back up players?
Our recruitment team have to get this right whatever the scenario is regarding Srewart.

Had a class day at a family doo. Spoke to someone who would know, I asked him if JH would come back. He said "I wouldn't rule it out" not sure if they meant this summer or in the future. The lad definitely wants to come back thought
