Partey at RB and Kiwior at LB again? Because that worked out so well in the last game… I guess it doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things, but at least us give us the best chance of winning to end the season on a high.
Xhaka! 1-0. Just had to be him. Lovely cross from Jesus and great header from the Swiss midfielder to put us 1-0 up.
Xhaka again! 2-0! You couldn’t make this up lovely play by Saka, Odegaard’s deflected strike falls to Xhaka who doubles the lead and scores his 9th of the season.
Partey just had a goal ruled out for White barging Sa in the back. Stupid from White. Needless foul and no reason to do that. Jesus now makes it 4-0! Lovely weighted pass from Jorginho into Trossard who takes his man on and crosses it in for Jesus to head home. Lovely finish.
Xhaka comes off for Vieira. Chants of “Granit Xhaka, we want you to stay” reverberating around the stadium. Imagine saying this after the Palace game in 2019. What an unreal turnaround he’s had.
FT. 5-0. A lovely summer’s day with a five-star performance from the boys. We finish the campaign in 2nd and with 84 points. 5 points behind the league winners Manchester City. It’s a real damn shame we didn’t win the league given the position we were in in April, but we’ve still had a very good season filled with lots of joy and emotion. This is probably the most entertaining season we’ve had since 2007/08 if I’m honest. Arteta, Edu, KSE and the players have a lot of work to do ahead of next season, but we’ve got some excellent foundations to build on. I hope we use this as a springboard for future success and don’t get complacent by thinking we’re almost the finished article - because we aren’t. But at least we know the team we have is competitive and capable. An interesting summer lies ahead. For the first time in a long time, I’m looking forward to it.
Nah, I think if City needed to win their last two games, they would have. There’s no desire after they’ve already secured the title with a few games to spare and have a CL + FA cup final to look ahead to.
