Seems like RM was second choice, but again goes to show this is obviously something the club has been working on for a little while (as we should have been).
RM wouldn't have been my choice, but I fully back him to get Saints back up, if not automatic promotion, through the playoffs. COYS
None of this is real. I expect to wake up in a minute and read about a Rickie Lambert hat trick with assists from Adam Lallana and Morgan Schneiderlin
I wonder what the fan reaction would have been like if Enzo Maresca had got the job. He has only ever managed City's youth team, who won the PL2 title, and Parma, where he was sacked for not getting them promoted. He returned to City to become Pep's assistant last summer. Although the Martin appointment has split opinion, I presume fans would prefer him to Maresca.
Not that anyone asked, or cares, but I will fully support any manager of Saints until they prove that they have messed things up or are not working out, just like the players. The feeling in my water is that Russell Martin might work out if only because so many people are relentlessly negative and tarring him with a Jones-Shaped brush. I genuinely thought Strachan was a good manager when he came to Saints, Coventry got relegated but everyone seemed to forget he kept them in the top division for seasons previous to that - on a nothing budget with average players.
Fans will always have an agenda regardless, If the manager the club brings in isn't to there liking. Ficke as F***
I can understand the reticence I mean tippy-tappy along the penalty area is depressing and dull - if you win every game 1-0 a lot won't mind - but the whole 'style of football' argument leaves me confused. So pressing is gone because it can be countered nowadays and it knackers your players, hoofball is cave-man football and awful to watch, possession and defensive play is off the ball is not on the cards - I'm not sure what will be 'entertaining', will 'win loads of games' and keep the majority of the fan base happy in the Championship. Genuinely, I'm not being facetious.
I find the argument of these 1-0 wins quite redundant personally, Swansea were the 4th top goal scorers last season, And for us witha bigger budget and better striking options (fingers crossed) We should score a bucket load too. Also, Swansea were one of the teams for the most progressive passes too, So it isn't like its just possesion for possesion sake.. They play slowly at the back, and kick into gear as they go up the field., The slow possesion at the back is to cause the opposition to press and then we should move the ball quickly through the thirds.
I'm not a football tactics expert by any means but I sort of thought that - no one keeps possession with no target, no end goal, I mean Selles looks like it sometimes but I'm sure he's trying to do something, it just isn't working with the players and muddled thinking. Buy into this properly with the right players, be a bit patient and it should work. I mean he's trying to emulate Manchester City (isn't he?) and obviously they have the quality but you can't say they're boring.
Yeah totally, And if they get this summer correct and bring in the right personel to implement this style.. I'm sure it'll be fun! We will score more than you is always a fun way to play the game. But our defensive players should be better than majority of the leagues so i would we have a pretty damn good chance of beating most teams last year.
I am underwhelmed by this, but I will be behind him all the way, until he makes a Jones of himself. I realise football like life is cyclical. If it isn’t for the lows, you don’t enjoy the highs so much. We March On.
