Apologies, forgot myself! Rule one, never expect anything from anyone, especially Football managers. It seems, they're either too expensive, too inexperienced, too little known, too proud or too good/bad for us. Lots to look forward to then!
I'm not against possession football as long as it has an attacking purpose. When Martin was at MK Dons his team had the most touches in the opposition box in League One. They scored a goal with a move that had a record 56 passes! I remember the football we played under Our Nige the last time we were in the Championship and we often dominated teams with possession based attacking football, remember the third goal against Boro that season?... As long as Martin's team is attractive and effective i'm sure that he will win over the doubters.
Have you read the fire storm including Alfie House (Echo) & Jacob Tanswell (Athletic) which are usually very good info sources? Yes of course you’re 100% correct but everything points that way. plus; I did say in the original, “ok he’s not even in the door yet” so just expressing some possible concerns. plus; have you seen the thread title?
The fact Martin has a footballing philosophy at all is huge for me. This club is totally bereft of any identity at all. If we can keep the ball next season that is already an improvement on this. Let’s just give the guy a chance to build something…
Strewth……some of you are a bit negative even before the new guy is actually here. How do you think the current players are feeling. Not very positive I’ll wager. Whoever the board actually engage with we as fans will have to get behind them. We have a responsibility too, to get behind the lads. Fans in my opinion play a very important roll. Yes we will moan and blame if we have to. However let’s do our part and give whoever a chance to do their best. COYS…….
So in summary: - Swansea fans are gutted that he's leaving - MK Dons fans rate him from his time with them and feel he laid the groundwork for Liam Manning - Fans of other Championship clubs by and large think it's a smart hire and that we've signed a good coach - There's no large segment of fans/neutrals who think he is a massive tosser/lunatic/narcissist (a la Jones) - Saints fans are torn and spread right across a spectrum of on board with the decision to totally against the hire and disappointed, via being apprehensively supportive Not too bad, I'll take that.
I know nothing about him, but will give him my full support, as I do with any other new manager. Fingers crossed for an exciting season for a change! COYR
Graham Potter in talks with Nice. 10th in Ligue Un. No European football next season, half-empty stadium most home games. The likes of Ross Barkley and Aaron Ramsey in the squad.
Slight red flag “He is very forthright in his principles and prefers to try and improve and perfect his own system rather than adapt to opposition tactics or change style based off of results. In some ways this is admirable, but Ralph Hasenhüttl is a prime recent example of a manager at Southampton struggling with a lack of plan B.”
Yeah I thought that as well, every manager should have a plan B. I have tried to find something positive about this appointment. But sadly cannot, the championship will be our home for sometime I fear.
100% especially in this day & age. You have to adapt depending upon the quality & ability of your opponent. Doomed I tell you, doomed.
