He would of done well here, 2 elements were against him though.. The fans didn't want him and booed every mistake and secondly he didn't gave a squad capable of doing what he wanted.

Adams and Onuachu would of been good If the squad all bought in.

I can't help but feel people need to manage their expectations a bit. We're a bit of a crisis club, we've just been relegated in pathetic fashion, have a bloated squad and dressing room issues out in the open - and managers with spotless CVs (or close to it) do not drop down into the second division.

Yes, I know that relative to other Championship jobs it is very attractive (healthy financial resources, great infrastructure) and in a nice part of the world, but still. It's a Championship job now - and there is a LOT to do. We also have vacancies in almost every senior position.

    Graham Potter? Seriously...?

Probably better to try and catch someone on the way up (as we did with Adkins, Brighton did with Potter, Forest did with Cooper) than to just take someone off a merry-go-round.

Adams and Onuachu would of been good? Blimey that's a statement I never thought I'd see in print.

You could also put a positive spin on it. We are a club that needs a rebuild, with plenty of assets to sell and money to raise. So a new manager can come in and build the squad in their own image with the funding to do so

But yeah managers like Potter or Rodgers wouldn’t touch us with a barge pole

For a club of our size our only real selling point was that we were in the PL. Would Mowbray really leave Sunderland for us? I doubt it. Carrick/Martin who are at similar sized clubs and Schumacher who is at a smaller club would make the jump if offered I’d expect. Location might be an issue for Carrick on a personal level

I wouldn't say we're a crisis club at all - we've just had a really **** season. As we're going to embark on a rebuild, it's a really attractive job IMO. I'm not saying it would interest Potter or Rodgers (very unrealistic) but we should get more attractive options than Martin or Mowbray.

Tom, we have a board with no football experience (Ankersen aside - but he's made very high-profile **** ups) and nobody below them in the senior positions or exec roles. I'm not sure that conveys much reassurance to managers either.

I wouldn't say we are in total crisis, but there are obviously serious issues or this thread wouldn't exist.

I do think though we do have to manage our expectations, Potter doesn't go from Chelsea to Championship. Rodgers doesn't go from Prem to Championship either.

Also from the people I’ve spoken to (just fans of other teams) they pretty much all seem to think we will bounce back immediately and with ease. So if that is the feeling within the game then it’s a bit of no win situation for a more established manager at least in the short term

But Ankersen and Kraft have been credited for a lot of the good work done at Brentford (yes I know there were other people involved). The positions that are vacant will be filled - in fact it could be a good thing in giving the club a fresh start. It's a real chance to wipe the slate clean from the last couple of seasons and I think a lot of people will see that as a good thing.

I agree, It makes me laugh that atm a manager comes in from a top profile club outside the premier league (Knutsen or Jaissle) we have a massive rebuild job, Not just only with the playing staff but every facet of the club.

Also, Why does Carrick leave Middlesbrough? He is on a good thing there and he has the summer now to bring in a few new faces to his team.. He is going to likely have great contacts with United too.

For me, I'd be very happy with Russell Martin, may nor be the glamorous of choices but at least as fans we'd know the style of play going forward.

Whilst I understand why many on here scoff at the prospect of one of these two coming to Saints, I'm not sure I would be so quick to dismiss it. Managers, just like players, want to get paid as much as possible. We can afford them and they are both out of work. Add that potential fat salary to a clean slate rebuild, a veritable war chest (compared to the rest of the division) and a position at one of the biggest clubs in the country outside of the CL competitors (who certainly won't be looking at them) and why not? Last time I checked there weren't any vacancies in the PL. Leeds and Leicester will probably join us and the promoted sides will stick with who took them up so a year in the Championship won't look so bad to someone who backs themselves as those two certainly will.

Even with our relegation, the finances of Championship clubs won't be as good as ours, or at least they shouldn't be. From that point of view, we should be an attractive option for Championship managers.

Look at Middlesbrough, they signed six players on loan this season, and four of those started last night. Will they sign them all? Doubtful, so Carrick will have a big rebuild job there, too.

Diallo was one of Sunderland's best players, and he was on loan. Presumably there are many more throughout the league. Rebuilding with loan players and rebuilding with permanent signings could be a factor, and I imagine we'll be doing the latter.

I hear you, Obviously it's going to be alot easier for Carrick to bring in players here... But maybe he's wary that he won't gst as much control of recruiting as he would at Middlesbrough.

Also doesn't he have family up there?, Just feel I'd be Incredibly surprised if he decided to jump ship so quickly.

Got to be confident of attracting a decent manager, remember we got Alan Pardew to drop to league 1.

Sounds like another Selles to me. Hope I'm wrong but I'm a bit tired of managers obsessed with possession.

At least we're actively looking already, and not waiting for the season to end.

Can't wait for them to get started. Needs doing. Feels like we've had a handbrake on for the last 4 years in many aspects. Now a time for no excuses about previous baggage etc to begin.
