Bristol City seem to have completed the signing of Ross McCrorie. Good signing that. Wish we signed him as he’s exactly what we’re missing in midfield.

I don't follow Scottish football myself so I'm guessing your referring to defensive rather than his (unimpressive) attacking abilities.

Plus at the age of 25, if the best he can do is Bristol City then I'm out.

He plays defensive midfield and centre back, they're paying £2m for him and Norwich and West Brom were also allegedly in for him.

Which side of defence does Smith, on loan at Grimboys, play? Could he be a backup to Jones?

Why is it ok to have 2x right footers, but not 2x left footers. WTF does it matter what your strongest foot is.

Probably because left-footed centre-halves are rarer than right-footed so partnerships like Ferdinand and Vidić or Carvalho and Terry were a necessity but in those cases they were elite centre-halves comfortable playing with their weaker foot. However, the preference by coaches is to have a left-footer and right-footer in a back four if they can help it.

McLoughlin did okay as a right centre-half but he looked a little uncomfortable playing out from the back, always preferring to use his left-foot. Given Rosenior’s philosophy, I’m not surprised he wants strength in depth by having at least two left-footers and two right-footers.

It’s not, you ideally want right footers on the right and left footers on the left, both at full back and centre back.

Even Pep, with all his experimenting, prefers Aké or Laporte on the left side with Stones, Dias or Akanji on the right.

Steve Bruce signed a whole team full of left footers.

Yeah it’s to do with getting turned and how comfortable a player is with both feet. But that can be overturned by having players that are better at positioning. It’s not essential to have one left and one right, it’s just better to have both. Ideally with a ball playing defender you want them to be ambidextrous, but that’s quite rare for a centre half at this level.

I complained early in the season about Alfie Jones continuously turning in field with his right foot it was very negative , over the last few months he really has begun to play it naturally to the right , I suppose it could be tactic driven . To avoid the opposition targeting one side of the player and restricting them a back must be comfortable in any direction - I do think we are now mainly . I’d like more ground passes down the middle like BHA

Centre halves mature at 26 onwards usually. That’s what we are seeing with Jones.
