What is the holdup for announcing when the transfer window opens? Is it always like this? I've read it's likely to be June 10th with only domestics business allowed for the first 20 days.

This is from the FLW site, CS:

"If the dates are the same as they were last year, the window will open for EFL clubs at the start of June. Last year, clubs were free to sign players from June 10th. Yet for teams based in the Premier League and the Football League, only domestic transfers were alllowed until July 1st when international deals were then permitted. In 2021, the window opened on June 9th. According to a report from The Sporting News, the window could potentially open on June 10th this year."

Axel Tuanzebe is set to be released by Man Utd, a decent CB in his day but has had his injury problems. Could be worth signing

Thanks Rick. So I guess it's not unusual for a date not to be declared yet.

I saw this and wondered the same, I remember him being decent in the Championship for Villa when they won promotion. I hadn't realised just how bad his injuries (or just lack of playing time) had been:

His appearances by season for the 6 senior seasons he's had read: 5,13,19,11,30,10,* less than 15 appearances a season and just 9263 mins across his entire recorded career - just over 100 games. Omobamidele is 5 years younger and at 92 games.

*Byram by comparison is 16,19,20,8,13,23 - 16.5 appearances a season. Tuanzebe has played less than Byram.
Matt Jarvis final 6 career seasons: 21,2,10,1,4,29 out of curiosity.

I don’t see why Tuanzebe would necessarily come on big wages. His contract has expired so he will command wage-wise whatever the market will pay him?

If he prices himself out of our reach, that’s fine, but I would be surprised if there are all that many clubs in the Championship able and willing to afford more than we are… and would he get a Premier League position?

I’m really loath for us to sign yet another centre back who manages less than half a season in short spells due to injury, but he is the sort of class of player that if we could get him fit could come good - a bit like Bassong (appreciating that didn’t entirely work out).

I agree I don't think he'd be demanding wages outside our means, but I think when we're looking at a lean squad where there's competition for places but not exceptional depth, big injury issues are a concern, especially at CB with Hanley likely to start the season injured, and Gibson never seeming far from injury or loss of form. If we run next season with 4 CBs, I don't think Tuanzebe can be the fourth unless you're content with Sorensen seeing significant minutes in that position.

If we're signing 2 CBs to have 5 options, maybe Tuanzebe could be one of them, but are the wages we'd be spending on two CBs including one who is injury-prone, better combined for a single player who could be better and more robust?

Tuanzebe was on loan to Stoke since January and managed 3 starts and one sub appearance during that time. I'm not at all convinced that Sørensen is a good option at CB. He's much better at DM or CM as his WhoScored stats indicate.

6.32 is a very low rating for his 5 games at CB whereas 7.28 for his games at DM indicates where his strength lies. We need a new specialist CB, preferably left footed, who has a decent fitness record so Sørensen can play in his best position.

There is also a lot of concern in terms of what kind of Grant Hanley will return from this injury. Several journalists have said that after an Achilles injury you only really come back at 80% whilst it should effect his front foot defending it may well effect his recovery speed

Pink Un reporting Spartak and Dinamo Moscow both interested in signing Giannoulis, talks have been held with their representatives.

I wouldn't mind if Dimi left to be honest, he looked great first season, he was pushed aside for a right footed LB in the PL and has never really convinced me this season. One that I am not sure has the mentality either.

Hope we get a decent fee and wish him all the best!

Underwhelming but as Webber gambled our parachute money on a quick return last season & failed, free transfer is in our price range.

Whether or not he'll have the legs or desire for another Championship season or he's just here for one last pay day is anyone's guess.

He's Cinderella, according to Connor Southwell in the PinkUn. I guess that makes Webber and Wagner into the Ugly Sisters. I think Webber would look terrific in drag. A kind of Madame Pompadour type, with a painted-on beauty spot. For some reason, I see Onel as Buttons. Struggling to find a Prince Charming, though. Normann would have fancied himself in the role but he would have dropped the glass slipper when he walked past the nearest mirror.

    I'm not drunk, honest! <laugh>

Giannoulis to Russia might not be a good move as he might not fancy moving to a country at war.

IMO, Dimi's problem is consistency. At his best I think he's better than either McCallum or Williams, but he seems to go completely AWOL at times.

I think he'd be mad to go to Russia, no matter how much money they offer him.
