Just back from Fakenham, what a day. Rocky exceeded expectations and made us all proud. I have to say we were well looked after with lunch, tea and celebratory champagne reception. I hope you all got on.
Well done Florida, I haven't seen the race but seeing the distance, he seems to have been really impressive. It must be an amazing feeling to own such a beast
Not so. Went off at 11/4 2nd fav and got beaten 5l by a 20/1 shot (in very fast time for a class 4). The new fav was last. Just can't predict these things
congratulations FP , must be a great experience, didn’t see the race , but sounds like an absolute annihilation of the opposition ! you must be looking forward to more such days !
Yes mate. I was confident but as you say an annihilation. I was a bit worried going out on the final circuit, Charlie was bumping him along and then he picked up the bit and went. Next stop Stratford. I spoke to the guy from racing tv after Johnathan, sorry can’t remember his surname and he suggested the John Corbet cup which is a big pot.
I had to drive home but the ladies were well oiled and I had a few herbs while watching the replay over and over.
Same mate. I think the further that horse goes the better he will be. I thought the jockey was great. He doesn't seem the easiest horse to be on. Did you speak with Charlie and get his assessment of how it went? Congrats again.
No unfortunately. He had to head straight off to Newmarket for some test. The bend comes very quick at Fakenham after the fence. I had a brief chat and he said he thought he might have to pull him up but he gave him a smack and he picked up.
Sounds like the horse was being lazy don’t it. He’s clearly talented. Well done and good luck on your journey with him.
Anyone thinking of getting involved in racing on a very small budget should seriously consider pointing. Contact some trainers in your area, you’ll find them on your local pointing website. Ours happens to be east anglia. Don’t be embarrassed about your budget they’ll find something for you. It’s a very welcoming sport that needs all of our support if racing in this country is to survive. I’ve been all over the southeast this winter and the crowds have been massive with cheap beer and food and proper old school bookie’s where you can have a proper bet. Your car might get stuck in the mud but there’s always a friendly farmer to tow you out. The sport also has a good following from the youngsters out for the day cheap drinks with the friend in a friendly atmosphere.we just happen to have been lucky enough to have a day like yesterday but my feet are still firmly on the ground I know how lucky we’ve been.
How does the ownership work with your horses? Are they in small syndicates, or are they more like racing clubs with lots of members?
Small syndicates yesterday was eight Sum it up is five. Say there’s ten of you five hundred quid each, you’re buying a good horse hundred quid a month all in. I know some boys near me bought a horse I think it was one of the Roccos between them they paid a grand for the horse, won first time out at higham, they’ve had some fun. Even up your way there’s plenty of trainers. We’re lucky our trainer works in bloodstock with lots of connections in Ireland. That horse I mentioned yesterday two grand from a guy whois a top ptp producer in Ireland.
If you don’t mind I’ll finish with this. I be been overwhelmed by all the kind words and support since yesterday, and it’s got me thinking back to the good old days on here when we were a force to be reckoned with. Over the last couple of years there’s been a dark cloud over this forum and I for one am going to make a conscious effort to be a bit more civil to everyone despite our differences of opinions on other stuff. The main thing for me is you know and love your racing, like me and we should use that in a more positive way. Cheers.
