ABK's attracted quite a lot of interest across Europe - he got called up Germany for the first time this season so he's highly rated. If Burnley offer 5 million for Tella we'll simply laugh at them and tell them to take a hike. As for JWP, I'm not as convinced as some that he'll leave due to our asking price, but it's certainly probable.
We should be asking for £15-20m for Tella imo. Think Alcaraz could be the difference maker player wise next year. Getting the manager right is by far the most important thing though.
With JWP, the Saints fan in me thinks he would love to stay to get us promoted. However, even if he loves the club (he clearly does), this is his career and from a career point of view a move to a mid table Premier League club is what I would do.
No way JWP sticks around in a tournament season imo. Would write off his slim chances of going to Germany completely.
Agreed. But will a mid-table club offer 40mill for a 28 year old CM with little re-sale value? Only one I can think of that would do that is West Ham when they sell Rice. But then again, with the fee Rice would command, they could afford to get someone younger and better. Wolves if they sold Neves is possible but he'd have to change his name to Juan Wardeo-Prowseo.
Those prices would have been severely outdated ten years ago. Talking 3-5 times higher than that. And yes, JWP will 100% leave.
Problem there being nearly always seems to be 'more favoured' players (Rice for example) plus would James be likely to be the ever present midfielder (and free kick King) at another club ?
Didn't Mark Noble stay with West Ham through relegations? (I could be wrong). To me that is a 'like for like' comparison. Good midfielder, potentially on his day an England player, loves the club and only ever been at one club.
Yep. I can't see how people can state with 100% certainty that he'll be off. To make it clear, I expect him to leave but it wouldn't shock me if he's still in a Saints shirt next season.
Gonna make myself unpopular but I haven't any friends anyway.....I think it's important for the club that he does leave. We need a complete reinvention, new manager and managerial staff and a new captain. Clear out the deadwood on the playing side, refresh and start again.
TBF he was at a different stage of his career (early 20's) than what JWP is now. That situation is probably similar to Lallana rather than JWP.
I think a lot depends on who is managing the team next season and how much SR want the money they could get for him.
Potter or Rodgers would be my first choices for manager (if Forest stay up), but I think it's highly unlikely we'll get either of those. Would be a statement from SR though.
Leicester for Potter appears to still be on the cards if they stay up, he walks into any mid table PL side when their manager is sacked if not. Rodgers more likely but will still get PL offers as next season progresses, I know we generally don’t like him for reasons well known, but he won the FA Cup with Leicester and started the rebuild of Liverpool that Klopp carried on, as well as establishing Swansea in the PL, despite this season that is an excellent track record. I maintain that it’ll be another person we haven’t really considered, I personally think Viera is quite likely with his City Group background, given SRs love for all things City. If we go for a City Group manager I would quite like to see us go for Girona’s manager Michel who has an excellent promotion record in Spain (promotion in first full season at a club three times on the bounce) but I’m not sure if he could be tempted from La Liga.
