It's also interesting that other players were not included in the cuts. Placheta has been mentioned as a possibility, but he's still around. Will Barden step up to take the GK place vacated and presumably Mumba will take Byram's place at RB (and LB). Josh Martin won't be coming back, but there's now a chance for Jonathan Rowe and Tony Springett to stake their claim on the flanks

An interesting question and answer on Tuesday's Pink'Un Q & A session about possible relaxing of the current restrictions on EFL clubs signing players from Europe.

    Q. Paul Frewer: "Am I right in thinking that there is a possibility of the loosening of the the work permit requirements in the foreseeable?"

    A. Connor Southwell: "That's right Paul. There was a report in the national media before the weekend that the FA were exploring the possibility with the Home Office of allowing clubs to sign players not requiring a GBE, dependant on the minutes a club provided to English talent in the season before. Where that figure is north of 35%, clubs can bring in four players. Between 30% and 35% is three, while 25% to 30% is two and 20% to 25% is one. There are suggestions it could be in place by June - which would clearly be a game changer for Norwich."

It all comes down to money. If we sell Omo and/or Aarons then we might be able to tempt a younger or more proven striker. Barnes is not the answer

We should be looking at strikers with at least 4 good seasons in them

Rather underwelmed by Barnes, but it may suggest that Wagner is looking for a SS/AM to play behind the striker, a position we've struggled to fill this season. Southwell suggests that Wagner is also looking for "players who provide character and don’t wilt in the face of adversity" as our players have too often this season. That I do agree with.

The dilemma is that it's difficult to attract PL quality strikers to play in the Championship. Should we gain promotion next season, we would then be able to recruit a quality striker. That's my guess, anyway.

Ironically if we had gone up Pukki would have stayed & Rashica would want to come back .

Barnes is exactly that type of player -- as well as being a Holt-like pain to the opposition and someone who scares defenders and scores goals. I can see the logic.

One of those players I hate watching come up against us. Could be what we need to support our 2 young strikers. Sargent has to start ahead of him for me though

He's older than Pukki & nowhere near as good .

No team building for the future signs washed up 33 year old journeymen strikers .

    6 goals in 37 games

17 of those were sub appearances, so 6 in 24 starts is reasonable.

That is a very low bar especially as we just released Dowell who scored 5 in 23 appearances many of those as sub & he's 8 years younger.

I would be happier signing Andy Carroll at 34 an impressive 9 in 30 if we are going down that road.

Or perhaps we could resign the young gun Jordan Hugill that scored 5 in 24 & a spring chicken at 30 ?
