Are Newcastle ready ? can they compete and do well in the champions league ? I'll go first and it might surprise you , but I believe the answer is yes. If you're good enough to land top 4 in the Premier League you've got every chance. The group would be difficult because like everything the set up is designed to keep the greedy clubs happy, but I believe any top 4 Premier league side enters the competition with a good chance of doing well if not winning it. Discuss.
Ready for CL *or* ready to have another good season in the PL. Not both. Just look at Wet Spam this season. Need strengthening of the squad if we're going to compete in both competitions. We have a good first XI but a pretty thin squad.
I agree and I'm sure they'll add suitable depth and a new level of quality . I also feel the champions league is slightly more forgiving in terms of travel and playing Wednesday rather than Thursday.
Even though I’d enjoy any sort of European competition next season, I do think the Europa would affect our PL season, think we’d finish about 9th. Champions League isn’t to bad in terms of playing on a Tuesday for example then a Sunday. With the CL I’m curious to the calibre of player we could attract. This is our chance, we have to take it.
I agree it's the ideal scenario to leapfrog the quicksand of the europa league. It's a huge opportunity.
If Newcastle don't it'll be years before they get another opportunity most likely. Like you've said europa league will be a weight around the clubs neck.
Whereas you lads haven't spent a penny over the years... Give it a rest. We're ****ing miles away from being able to spend what you can waste. Best thing is how massive portions of your fan base are in meltdown (quite literally) due to the fact that the Qatari bid is in jeopardy... you know, so you could buy your way to stuff / compete...
Think looking at the squad Pope, Trippier, Botman, Bruno, ASM and Isak are CL ready players, Almiron, Schar, Wilson, Joelinton, Willock and maybe a few others are probably squad players in a CL squad. 4 top quality additions (CB, LB, CM, RW) and you have a decent starting 11 with the above able to come in and play to the standard/be useful rotation options, maybe add Longstaff, Target, Gordon and Burn into the mix as well in that second tier. The good thing is we have 16-18 players EPL competent (Murphy, Dubravka, Krafth/Manquillo, Anderson in addition to above) so with another 4 CL quality additions you can battle on both fronts.
When he's fit he is quality, easily the most ready for a CL campaign bar Bruno and Isak we have for the CL. Is he back at training yet?
