    RIP Gordon Lightfoot <rose>
    84, so a good age!
'if you could read my mind' was a song that I remember well from the early '70's.

Sundown and the Edmund Fitzgerald, he was a great singer-songwriter with a voice like warm honey, mrs Conn and me saw him a couple of times in the late 70s and once in Athens in 81 while we were island hopping around Greece , he had a good innings and was touring up until a couple of years ago RIP

Unfortunately, my only appreciation of his songwriting is courtesy of a superb cover by Sandy Denny's band, Fotheringay, of The Way I Feel. Probably need to investigate the guy's work further!

Wow, if you've never heard the Fotheringay LP before then you're in for a treat! Personally, I think it's Sandy's best work outside of the early Fairport LPs and a real shame that they only released the one LP. The Ballad of Ned Kelly and Banks of the Nile are immense songs, hopefully you'll enjoy!

I earlier had a quick scan for the album on Ebay and discogs , stupid money so I will stream it for a while and look for it at record fairs and car booties , it's the thrill of the chase

I was going to suggest the 3CD and 1DVD box set, Nothing More as an alternative but when I went to look for it, apparently it's no longer available in spite of the fact that it was only released in 2015. Looking at a copy 2nd hand isn't particularly cheap although it does provide the major bonus of a DVD containing 4 live recordings from The Beat Club, a German TV music programme. Incidentally Sandy named the band Fotheringay after the song of the same title that she wrote for her first Fairport Convention LP What We Did On Our Holidays, which is also thoroughly recommended if you like English folk rock.

Fotheringay , reminds me of a time when the company I worked for used to have it's own driving instructor, you would get a 2 week course and a test , pass within 2 weeks , I could already drive so it was just a matter of brushing up my highway code and road craft, I was ready after 5 days so the instructor used to take me up to an airfield near Fotheringhay and he would learn to parachute and I learnt how to do handbrake turns on the airfield <laugh> Fotheringhay is where the band got its name from

Linda was a friend of a landlord in St Albans and in the 90s she would often turn up on a weeknight and do a solo acoustic set , her acoustic version of Rock a Doodle Do and Lark was beautiful and showed off her full vocal range and she was also accomplished on the guitar and keyboard

Today I learned the German Eurovision entry can best be described as "camp Rammstein"

Not a fan of the Stones, but I might have been more amenable to them if they had actually been like this! <laugh>

I don't know why this shocks me.

I'm no fan of The Beatles.
