It won't be an excuse because it won't need one. Money is the far and away the main reason for success but random events also play a part. So there is scatter on league finishes based on that. We expect to finish 5th or 6th but will sometimes finish higher and sometimes lower. That's exactly what has been happening. It's also exactly what has been happening to every other club. Therefore there is no evidence that any club has an edge other than money.
A) It does exist. B) it hasn't been pocketed, it has been spent C) a lot was lost because of Covid D) it still doesn't make up for the additional commercial income at Man U, Liverpool and Man City or the overspending at Chelsea so we still only have the 6th most expensive squad.
I know we have no Emerson, however, Porro defensively is just not up to scratch. It blows my mind that we still stick with the same formation which leaves the right side of our defense so exposed. Again, I know we have injuries in the CM position but playing Skipp and Hojbjerg as a 2 doesn't work. Why do we not play Sarr alongside Hojbjerg and Skipp deeper with him covering Porro. Drop Kuluevski and play a front 2 of Son/Richarlison/Danjuma and Kane. So fed up of playing this formation and giving away goals.
Klopp is a despicable human being, he points fingers at the opposition when it is his own players at fault, he loses sight of objectivity when every decision does not go his way and will pick fights with anybody who gives a decision against him. His actions on the touchline are unprofessional and disrespectful, he is a first class hypocrite. The bloke lacks any kind of class and is the most unlikeable c*nt in football, the FA really should throw the book at him, but they won`t as he is manager of their darling club.
One bad decision going Spurs` way amongst an ocean of bad decisions going Varpool`s way does not even things out in the slightest pal. But you keep digging up that Kane tackle every time the refs help Varpool out.
I like Porro He is what it says on the tin if we are looking for a wingback who can defend and attack in equal measure then we need to get shopping for Ashraf Hakimi…I hear some saying we can’t afford him? Oook then Porro is the best we can do…just like Emerson…a jack of both trades… master of just one. Emerson is better at defending and Porro at attacking. I think Porro on the front foot makes for exciting viewing and isn’t this what Spurs fans crave?
I like Porro, however its so easy for the opposition to focus on that area and score. Drop the 3 up top, play a 3 in midfield and make sure someone like Skipp can cover Porro. Porro can bomb forward providing the width on the right.
Agree, we need centrebacks and midfielders who are capable of covering efficiently when the wingback is attacking. That’s how the best teams do it
100% I know we have all been saying this for years but Dier is a massive problem at the back. We need an experienced head at the heart of our defence to organize the back 3
Remember that £150m that was raised through issuing another 150m shares, which ENIC bought. What happened to the other £50m that was never drawn down, that could (and should) have been used to buy a much needed top class CB, instead it will no doubt be paying for Go Karting and the hotel.
Totally agree and made the same point the other day to DH. The defence is bad but not nearly as bad as the midfield is making it look. Neither wing back can defend so any competent opposition teams merely have to add a man over in the middle third and they can play right through us. The tactics of sitting deep certainly haven't helped but by default the backline will be under relentless pressure, especially in the early stages of a game when opposition legs are full of running. It is no coincidence we have conceded 10 goals in the opening 25mins of our last three games. I'm very disappointed Mason isn't giving Sarr more of a chance. I reckon he has a higher ceiling than Skipp and Hojbjerg.
I think it takes a certain level of guts to start making big changes, I like Mason but he's not the man to be taking risks. Personally I do not see a front 3 being any more effective than Kane and Son. Plus with the additional cover it will allow Perisic and Porro to venture higher up the pitch
If we were to play all three of Sarr, Skipp and Hojbjerg now we would have no midfield cover at all if any got injured during a match. It's quite risky.
Spending £45million on him when the club already had Djed Spence was silly though. Spurs bought Porro and Richarlison for around £100million combined when they need 2 quality centre backs, that is crazy and ridiculous.
Djed Spence who isn't good enough to get in the Rennes team. And which two quality centre backs could we have bought for £100m. Anyway, reports say Conte wanted both Richarlison and Porro and you always want us to back the manager so why wouldn't you on this occasion.
You writing off Spence already? From what I’ve seen, he’s no worse than Porro. “reports say” I don’t believe Antonio Conte looked at that defence and said he was happy with Sanchez, Dier etc and didn’t need at least one centre back
We are led to believe that Conte wanted Richarlison + Porro, and Spence was not his decree. 1. There are some here who have stated that the manager should be backed with the funds (within reason) to get the players he wants, are there not. 2. Which has nothing to do with whether the manager has his priorities correct (as you state, getting said players rather than two decent CBs etc) .
You have to back the manager, however whats the point of backing the manager when it was very apparent he was going to leave? I get Richarlison, but spending so much on Porro when it was apparent Conte wasn't going to sign a new contract seems odd. I do like Porro, but it does demonstrate a lack of long term planning. If we bring in a manager who wants to play a 4 he's not needed. We did exactly the same with Doherty and the Emerson when we went to a 3. We really need a manager and back him long term. Signing players to fit a system which we might not play in a couple of seasons is madness.
Your last two sentences are the reason why (as I have stated in "The way forward ..." article) the great majority of a squad should be "system" agnostic.
