I live just outside of Nottingham so I have read a lot of what went on there and also have the fans view as most of my mates are season ticket holders.

Forest have an ‘acquisition panel’ for several years which is headed up by David Pleat. Any signing that the manager wanted to make had to be ratified by all members of the panel or they wouldn’t authorise the move. This was the same for loans or permanent transfers. Even free transfers.

It is wildly regarded in Nottingham that Forests squad at the start of the season was far weaker than most people outside the squad realised. They lost several first team players (Tyson and Earnshaw being the most notable) and they were/are short of players to play in specific positions. Think it was a squad full of square pegs in round holes to be honest.

Billy Davies was forever going on and on about the lack of depth in the squad and the need to find quality replacements for several key positions.

As I understand, when McLaren was interviewed he sought assurances from the board and chairman that there was a) some player budget and b) he would have control of that budget. Although he was allowed to bring in a few of his own players there were at least 7 known targets that were not authorised and McLaren was never in a position to have ‘his’ squad. When deadline day came around he gave an interview to the Nottinghamshire Evening Post to say that it was a chance for the board to honour the assurances he was given in terms of player recruitment. The day came and went without them making so much of an approach for anyone, so like OLM has said in previous posts, he was well and truly stitched up.

To be fair to McLaren he walked away without any compensation and his departure ultimately led to the chairman resigning and promising to sell up at the end of the season and David Pleat being removed from the panel.

After we played them at the City Ground, I got chatting to some forests fans on the way home and they all seem to agree that had McLaren had the players at his disposal, he would have made a success of his time at Forest. Ultimately he was held back by circumstances beyond his control.

His only competition for the England job was Sam Hooferdyce. The Eredivisie is hardly a major European league is it?

In fairness, to win the dutch league with Twente is the equivalent to winning the PL with Liverpool or Arsenal. Not impossible but impressive.

I'm praying for McLaren or Keane to replace Nigel <laugh>

It's his teeth, they really stand out on him, but I would be more happy to have buck mclaren than joyce. Warren is a legend but not sure I would want him to come back and take charge.

It's impressive but Ajax/PSV/Feyenoord aren't the forces they once were. I don't want him at City. He doesn't know the Championship, he failed with Forest so why are people thinking he'll succeed with us?

He's definitely still got a soft spot for us. I sat behind him at Wembley.

It sok trying to justify the man`s failure at Forest, what happened at Wolfsburg then, he took a European Championship team, and transformed them into a disorganised pile of cack, sorry but not for me in the slightest, the way forward is to invest in eager young manager and staff that have a passion for the job, I still say OGS, Joyce and NB would make up the perfect package, we should be out in Norway camped outside OGS`s door, with regards JOYCE I think he would be more than willing to return to the club he saved, people talk about unfinished business, well here it is, JOYCE had his hands tied behind his back first time round with the dodgy directors, since this time he has forged a reputation within the game that is commanding respect, he has tasted further experience as manager of Antwerp, and unless he has been walking round with his eyes and ears closed must have gleaned so much from SAF. Come on Pappa ALLAM, get it done ... PLEASE

It was just posted by Al on CI, he got a text with supposed news from within the club, but I haven't managed to find anyone else to back it up yet.
