Looking at our recent run (barring PV) can anyone remember a Town side being more clinical in killing sides?
We’ve not been in this tier since the 1950s so it’s perhaps doing a disservice to some of our great sides to compare these performances to theirs, but it’s fair to say that we’ve never seen an Ipswich Town side destroy the opposition week after week without even giving goals up like we have for the last couple of months. It’s been as close to perfect as I’ve seen, as though the last decade and a bit never happened and the manner of the football we’re witnessing is in stark contrast to the previous half dozen managers at our football club.
It wasn't meant as any sort of disrespect, just a comment on how well this side have dealt with what's been put in front of them.
What a day. Absolute party atmosphere inside the stadium. The club from the owners, through the manager and coaching staff, payers, fans and everyone connected can share a fantastic achievement. Don’t care about the title myself but if we get 100 points and score a hundred goals, well don’t think too many clubs would have done that and not won a title. Quick shout out to my nephew who claims to be an Arsenal fan but is a season ticket holder with us. He must be some sort of lucky charm as he has never seen us lose - had to tell him that it won’t always be like this so savour the day. I’m buzzing, throat is very sore but so happy
What a day guys. After all the debates over the years on this forum (and BBC) we've finally had success. Today has been like the past couple of months, can't actually believe how good we've been, even the success I witnessed under Burely we never made it easy...5-0 up by half time, you're having a laugh. I had lots of doubts but I've never seen anything like the last couple of months, unbelievable form and scenes everywhere. I so wish I was there today but even though I wasn't the scenes I've seen online look incredible and I'm sure anyone who was there would say the atmosphere and feeling and performance was up there with some of those great days in our history. We look the best team ever seen at this level on current form, however real fair play to Plymouth, given their resources they have been relentless and outstanding all season, to finish above us takes some doing, fair play to them.
100%. Trying to put it in context is difficult because the league is so poor. The Charlton game and today we’ve come up against poor sides. It must be easy to motivate yourself to go to Old Trafford or Anfield but to go to some of these lower league grounds and play football has been a challenge in itself. To go on this run we’ve had to beat some decent sides along the way. How we’ve swept aside Bolton, Derby, Peterborough, Wycombe and most impressively of all a good Barnsley side and how we’ve made that look comfortable - I think you have to say even in the third tier this is something quite exceptional that our teams of the past would find it tough to equal.
Had a very strange dream last night. In a game we needed to win for promotion, we won 6-0. How ridiculous is that? We’re Ipswich and have to make thins as difficult as possible for ourselves. What time is the real game on?
Hangover anyone? What a day that was and it will be nice to hear from others how the celebrations, speeches, presentations all went. All difficult to organise in thw general mayhem. I spotted KM getting the bumps! So, Championship here we come! I expect us to make a few signings over the summer to improve the squad but even if we don't I think we can hold our own in the Championship with what we have. I hear Plymouth scored a lucky deflected goal.Look forward to playing them next season! While I am pleased for them, it must be said over the last month they have scraped wins! Lady Luck has been on their side. How many deflected goals? How many extra time wins? Perhaps its just they kept going. So, much to look forward to, ecstatic owners backing the right horse, Suffolk Punch of course! I believe we are top 6 Championship material some will say back to back promotions!
Get in, great season with ups and a couple of downs but once the smoke settles it looks like we waltzed into the championship with ease.
It was Bedlam in the SBR just wild celebrations and deafening noise, what a great day and a privelege to be there.
well done on your promotion. Yes we have scraped until teh end, with a small budget its been amazing. See you next season ..
