I like Selles but I have to admit he does seem out of his depth. I don't blame the guy for giving it a go but I don't want him out of the club either because I believe he still has a lot to offer us if he wants to stay. This probably won't happen but I would like to see something along the lines of getting a decent experienced manager in who is near the end of his career and he is prepared to let Selles shadow him (if Selles agrees) for a season or two.
Surely the longer our next manager has to assess the squad before a clear out the better. Makes sense to go early on next year's push in my opinion because it's not just Selles that needs to go, it's the coaching set up in its entirety as it is clearly damaged beyond repair from top to bottom.
When did we become such a nation of spineless ****ers? What happened to “stiff upper lip, take it on the chin”, all that old bollocks? I wonder what some people do when real life serves them up a slice of genuine heartbreak ffs.
Sure, keep sucking the club off & spending your hard earned money watching these clueless buffoons destroy everything about it. Yesterday was an utter disgrace. I hope selles reads this thread. Selles you’re a total joke and a fraud of a bloke. **** off out of our club and take Rasmus with you
Feeling a bit hormonal mate? Have a nice warm bath with evening primrose oil, light a few scented candles.
Saints have been lack luster for 2 seasons and most fans recognized we were going to get relegated weeks ago as there aren't three teams worse than us. Last nights game changed nothing. So I agree we need a root and branch change to the club even if that means not coming straight back up next season. We need an identity. We need leaders on and off the pitch. But the personal insults to individuals is over the top. Yes I think Selles has proved to be not the right person, but unless you think he is deliberately running the team to lose, the insults are too much. Football in the Championship is not a disaster. As long as the club survives, I will support it and the players and staff who put in the effort to help it survive.
I think Ruben was given a thankless task, really. I mean he's not exactly helped himself, but it's too early for him. He should be learning his trade with an Oxford, or a Huddersfield type team. Mind you, you could say the same with quite a few of our players.
We’ve just been relegated with an absolute whimper. So yes I’m angry. Maybe if more were angry enough and cared enough to create a hostile atmosphere for the board, they wouldn’t have been able to create this **** storm Instead we have a bunch of plastic melts for fans who are happy to accept whatever the club tells them. I can’t believe some people were actually clapping last night. Where’s the hurt pride? Where’s the passion? Southampton FC should be renamed Soulless FC. Selles is a clueless, negative prick and Ankersen is even worse. Thank **** I don’t have to watch another game this season
My Saints team on FM23 are on for the treble - title, FA Cup, Champions League (we won the Carabou Cup). #LTLin
The only issue with giving Selles any kind of chance is I firmly believe you could set the team up better if you pulled all names out of a hat, along with tactical instructions and random options for a team talk - where one of the options is shouting Poppadoms really loud while shovelling vindaloo into your mouth.
On that note, I just asked ChatGPT: "can you give me instructions to tell my football team what to do when they are 1-0 down with 10 mins to go" The answer: "Sure, here are some instructions you can give your football team if they are 1-0 down with 10 minutes to go: 1. Stay calm and focused: It's important to keep a level head and not panic, as this can lead to mistakes and poor decision-making. 2. Increase the intensity: With only 10 minutes left, your team needs to increase their intensity and urgency. Encourage them to play with more energy and passion. 3. Take more risks: In order to score a goal, your team will need to take more risks. Encourage them to push forward and take more shots on goal. 4. Make substitutions: If you have any fresh players on the bench, consider making substitutions to bring on some fresh legs and add some new energy to the team. 5. Change the formation: If your current formation isn't working, consider making a change to try and create more chances. 6. Play with width: Encourage your team to play with width and stretch the opposition defense. This can create more space in the middle of the pitch for your team to exploit. 7. Keep possession: It's important to keep possession of the ball and not give it away cheaply. Encourage your team to be patient and wait for the right moment to attack. 8. Press high: If the opposition has the ball, encourage your team to press high and try to win the ball back quickly. This can create opportunities to counter-attack and score a goal. 9. Stay positive: Finally, it's important to stay positive and believe that your team can score a goal. Encourage them to keep fighting until the final whistle." It seems even AI can do better than our managers.
At least some people arent completely overreacting We have been favourites to go down for months. These results shouldn't still be a surprise to anyone. Selles has seen us actually get points in games, though granted we have been insanely negative against teams nearer our level. Bringing anyone else in to this complete shambles will just rub off on them. Write this season off and start in the summer. Starting any of the U21s now will do nothing but batter their confidence in the same way it has anyone in our first team. Amazing how few people seem to be able to understand the bigger picture at play.
I am posting this for the new season. This season is gone. But we can’t go into the championship with this idiot in charge. We will get rinsed
So let me get this straight, just because he's not up to managing a Premier League team, he's a 'twat' or a 'prick'. Seriously, read that back. The guy's son play's with my son's U'10 team. Ruben is a pleasant, friendly guy. Certainly no prick. 2 weeks ago his father in law passed away. He has a 14 year old daughter that has genuinely struggled with the family constantly moving between countries. At the football on Sundays, he's happy to have photos and smile with all the other kids/teams/parents that ask - yet it's his time to watch his own son play. He isn't the answer for us, but to sling **** at him for that is just plain wrong.
There will be so much change for next year, n one can predict how much. There are still 5 games of this season and lots of people calling for him to go now and to play U21s as if that will do anything positive.
I’m sure he’s a lovely bloke. I’m sure even a Nathan Jones was behind the scenes. Doesn’t mean either of them should be managing Southampton. You’re right of course. It’s not his fault that he’s been promoted so far above his level. The angry should be directed elsewhere. But it is his fault that he played the most depressing, negative, tactically clueless football in a must win game last night. Unforgivable. Next time you see him can you ask him what he has against creative footballers and strikers?
