I felt sorry for Armstrong in the 2nd half. He was moved into a central role. He never stood a chance against their CB's. Ridiculous tactics from Selles again.
Passions are running high, here anyway with some of us; obviously not like the players or mgr. Ps. Changed.
Funny thing is, you could almost see what happened straight away in the game - we started okay for the first five minutes, whilst Bournemouth took a look at us and visibly you noticed them think "hang on, this lot are ****e" and then took over. The start of the second half, following the madness of bringing on Lyanco, up until the moment we woke up and brought Adams and Stu on, was some of the tactically most inept management I've ever seen.
Nah, tonight was far, far worse. There's a huge difference in trying to protect a 1 goal lead at Arsenal and what he did tonight.
Echoing a lot of the sentiments here, I kept my opinions to myself about most of the players but I will be glad to see the end of this lot. There isn’t a single player out of the back 4 Lavia and alcaraz that I would keep. The best thing JWP will do for this club in years is make a profit when he moves. Adams, Armstrong, Walcott and elyofuckingnoussi can go for free tomorrow. I don’t hold Selles responsible. His comment about how he would have Jack Stephen back tomorrow because we need players who care about Southampton hit right to the point of my own thoughts. Stepping stone players looking for a stepping stone move. They can all feck off and take the dross of the last few seasons with them. As for SR.. sloooooooowwww ****ing claap
Positives: Somehow managed to avoid the rain on the walk to and from the ground. AND…even better…it pissed it down on the players, deserved. Negatives: Everything else. Not surprised by the result. The performance, tactics (if there were any), in game management, intensity (where?) etc etc was somehow even worse than my already incredibly low expectations. Dreadful that we started AArmstrong, awful that we started Ely too. AND SOMEHOW they stayed on as long as they did. The game was flat af and that’s being kind, but **** it…it’s half time, if we bring off AArmstrong and Ely for Suelemana and Che it could be the positive proactive impetus to spark the team and crowd. What we got instead was the final nail in the coffin. When that halftime change was announced in the ground any hope of a battle in the second half died. And what’s even worse, you could see it all over the players too. They do not give a ****, they’ve given up and are just waiting for the season to end so they can dip out. Disgraceful. What a bunch of embarrassing ****ing dickheads. **** off out of our club and take your m8 clueless Ruben with you.
I saw nothing of the game but I just read the thread to catch up and I can imagine every moment as though I was there. It sounds like a distillation of the worst bits of every match for the last 18 months or so. I have to apologise to several people on here, notably Lincoln and Os, who saw this coming long before most of us did. There is something very rotten at the heart of the club we all (except Ides) love and it stinks to high heaven. I am losing confidence that things will get any better in the Championship and we may find ourselves in a replay of 2008-09 in the very near future. What the **** have they done to our club?
Being 90% deaf I find this highly offensive. Honestly I don't want to be looking at another man's legs in this weather!
Deflated after watching that. I know we lack quality but the lack of urgency and fight was awful. Tactics and formation all wrong for a game we had to win. Sutton called it gutless and feeble. I agree.
Sometimes you've just got to laugh about it, chaps. We're dogsh*t, and have been for the best part of three seasons. At one point, when AMN was moved to DM, after JWP went off, the commentator said, "he doesn't look comfortable in this position", haha. F*ck me. Newcastle are going to batter us.
Reckon this season could be studied for years to come. It's quite remarkable how we've spent circa £150m and yet are comfortably worse than the three promoted sides. How many times have we seen that pathetic first half performance in a must win game this season? I mean, we've known for a good few seasons how spineless this bunch were but they've taken it to new levels this season. And can we stop pretending that JWP is a top player and some amazing leader yet? Just as culpable as anyone imo, scoring a few free kicks doesn't make you a good leader, and surely this season has now shown that he's nowhere near the midfielder or leader of Romeu. More I think about it more I think he was the glue holding us together.
In terms of spending a lot to achieve so little, we've been totally outclassed by Chelsea. And regards the promoted teams, it could be the first season in years that no promoted team has gone straight back down. So fair play to them. But I'm totally with you on JWP. Good defensive midfielder if playing with the right partner, and his free kicks are fun. But, he is not a leader. He's a school prefect at best. His captaincy is the one constant over the last few seasons. We've had three managers and 50-odd players. Can't blame everyone for being gutless. Has to come down to the captain. My vote for next season: Lyanco. Leader. Legend. Primate.
Still think it’s harsh to blame JWP. Not saying he’s had the best season, but you could slot prime Pirlo into this team and he would look like Paul Wotton. As a CM, it must be soul destroying playing with these players. I still think JWP, Lavia and Alcaraz are (or will be) top half premier league players. But every time they win the ball and pass it to someone that isn’t one of them, it comes straight back at them. I guess we will see how good he actually is next season when he plays for a decent club. My money is on him being fantastic wherever he goes
Over the course of this stint in the Prem we've gone from playing with 8 forwards to sitting 11 men behind the ball. Strange as it is to write, I've never minded losing as long as we actually went for it with a bit of swagger and tried to rattle some cages. The last few years, the club seen to have become so afraid of losing top flight status that the negativity has infected everything and we find ourselves where we are. Running scared of Bournemouth. Don't you just miss the days of Jose Fonte screaming at the back line to push up?
It pains me that we still have to suffer 5 games of this manager, these players and this season. Supporting Saints is a self inflicted form of torture that there is no escape from.
