I’ll give it a go, haven’t played for a while. And im fond of red n white stripes. **** it, count me in.
It occurs to me that Sports Republic may be engaging in some Spread Betting - They're involved in a range of sports, own football teams in a range of countries, so now they're after English football teams in a range of professional leagues. They couldn't/didn't want to buy a team in The Championship, so they decided to buy Saints, and ensure our relegation. Getting Jones in was a masterstroke for their long-term planning, but they realised that Jones was being too successful in lowering Saints' quality, so they sacked him, just as Selles was walking past the coffee machine. "Ruben, we've got a quick project for you to finish off, it shouldn't take too long"....
Brighton at home for me. Forest just confirmed my thoughts. A full "pre-season" with barely any players away at the WC. New manager in place. And we performed like that. Truly dismal.
But Brighton have done that to so many teams this season. They've been fantastic. Forest have only won once away the whole season, and that was against us. Anyway, for me it is pointless trying to choose just one game or one moment. There have been maybe a dozen games that have demonstrated there would only be one outcome this season. As early as September when we lost 1-0 to Villa. Then post-WC, losing at home to Forest, getting torn apart by Brentford, losing to 10-men Wolves, and of course losing to f*cking Grimsby in the cup. Even failing to see off Arsenal last week, and failing to beat Utd with ten men for an hour of the game. I know a lot of people will say you shouldn't expect to win the games against the big 6 - and yes, objectively they are right - but finding ourselves in the positions we did, I think almost every other team in the league gets the more positive result in that scenario.
As I’ve said before the Wolves game is probably the worst result I can remember in my 30 years following this pointless football club. Home against a direct relegation rival in a “6 pointer”, go 1 up and then they have a player sent off and still manage to lose the game. If that doesn’t say it all about the state of the team this season then I don’t know what does
Nah I don’t think so, obviously both bad but being 1-0 up against 10 men for an hour or so against (at the time) the only team in the league worse than you to concede 2 in the last 15? mins is appalling.
But, I'd say it happens at least a couple of times a season in the league. A team with ten men can beat a team with eleven; it's not that rare. It often comes down to one bit of luck. The main reason we lost that game is because we are sh*t at scoring, but that has been the case for seasons now, so a result like that doesn't surprise me at all really. I'd say failing to score against nine men of Newcastle a couple of seasons ago is almost as shameful, and certainly losing to a League Two side is. Losing 9-0 though. Come on. That is a total humiliation. People will forget about the Wolves game soon enough. I doubt it hardly even registered with the neutral fan. But everybody remembers the 9-0. That won't be forgotten for a generation.
Meh we’ll just have to agree to disagree. A team lost 9-0 this year aswell so it does happen (and will probably happen more frequently as the gap gets wider between the best and the rest in the league, City could’ve done it multiple times if they actually wanted to)
Fully agree with this. Getting battered by a better team doesn't do much except ruin your GD. Losing from an almost unloseable position against direct rival is just unacceptable. I thought the Forest game would be the height of ****ness and then we played Wolves...
I don't go as far as to say the Wolves game was our worst game ever during my time as a Saints fan. But it was certainly our worst result this season, in my opinion, for the reasons above. We've had some shockers this season, but nothing tops that Wolves defeat.
