    You're right.

There's two things under the current rules that means its not a pen.

    1) he's arm is being used to break his fall.
    2) the deflection. Thiago gets the ball first, deflects back off Ings onto Thiago's arm

I was only talking about this season. I agree Diaz will move over as I think Salah will leave this summer. If No stays them Diaz started left.

I always think Diaz looks bunk on the right. I don't think he can play there.

    Ehh? Rather confused by above

    Did you mean:

“thought under todays rules/guidance it WAS a penalty”

“But for me it’s NOT a pen because his arms were in the only place they could be and therefore natural position”

our main objective is win all game.

    Brighton are hopefully imploding.

    Brentford are on the beach

    Fulham are on the beach

spurs just want it all to end

villa are the only side on a run and tails up.

if we win all games then we give ourselves 5th imo and a shot at closing in on someone who falls apart in newkie and utd

We've not really seen him on the right, just short cameo / glimpses.

I was seeing if Saints enigma device was all I thought it was cracked up to be when I wrote that messed up tripe.

i thought that under todays rules it wasn’t a pen.

personally though I do think it’s a pen - I would be raging if it happened against us. I know that’s an unpopular theory. I realise he had no choice but to handle it but for me that should not come into it - I don’t think that should be the dividing line

handball is handball if it gives you an advantage imho
His fall clearly stopped the ball from squirming free in the crowded penalty area - No one can know what could have happened so pen for me.

I guess what I am trying to say is I would like some common sense attached

if the exact same thing as last night had happened on the goal line stopping the ball on the line what would have been the decision ?

As I said - I think the rules indicate no pen imho but could that decision have remained the same on the line ?

I also think it should work in reverse too btw
I have seen pens given when someone has taken a wild shot that is flying out of play and the player has jumped using their arms for leverage

No opposition players in the immediate area and ball going into row d - just cause it’s hit a hand a penalty is awarded. Common sense dictates nothing could have happened 100% but yet pen is given. I think that could be stopped too. maybe some sort of indirect free kick ?

I know I am going to take pelters but that is just how I feel about handball.

that said it doesn’t make my blood boil like the Mane Ederson thing <laugh>

Get in. That was a big win and an all round good performance.

Since the introduction of jones, Jota and Gakpo, we can now see something that resembles a system. Since they’ve come in, the pressing is back and more importantly, the pressing is smarter. Darwin needs to be coached massively if he’s going to get into this team and if he can’t adapt, we may need to cut our losses.

what’s even more impressive is that we’re churning out a few wins despite starting games with just 10 men

Very happy with yesterday's win. Its the kind of away win we often got last season.

That's the point though - he didn't handle it, the ball hit him. That might seem to be a semantic nuance, but there is a clear distinction between the two.
    Btw, IFAB Rule 12 states:
He put his arm out to break his fall, how more natural a position could you ask for?
    No pen, definitely.

I thought the ref would point to the spot as i saw it live.

Once he didn't i was then sure VAR would not refer it.

you see them given, you see them not but you won't probably see var tell a ref he is wrong or to look again.

it would require a movement of hand to ball once he's landed to have that.

I can only refer back to the "unnatural position" part of the rule. It explicitly states that the arm/hand needs to be in a position that cannot be justified by the circumstances. Clearly breaking one's fall is justifiable use of one's arm, therefore no foul is committed. Anyone claiming otherwise is going against the letter of the law.
If you see them given, then they're given in error. Of course there's a certain amount of subjectivity as to what constitutes justifiable, but under last night's circumstances it was fairly obvious that his arm was in a perfectly natural position.
No different to if he was standing and the ball pinged onto his arm off his foot, or any other close range deflection.
I'm not sure why this is even a debate, tbh.

The curse of white away kit was finally over at London Stadium last night. Four losses one draw on previous occasions.

I think it's cos moyes lost his mind and called the ref a lot of names using foul language.

nobody is talking about moyes raging about matip foul in 91st minute yet but I did note with no small satisfaction that moyes was not complaining when soucek smashed jota from 3 yards away, straight through his back with elbow raised first half.

    what goes around comes around.

I was not shocked that we saw was the entire west ham side and manager lost their heads after than pen shout and didn't get another real chance.

    the thing is.

bowen had 3 massive chances, one ruled out by offside.

Antonio had a bit of a shocker as he should have played the lad in on their left to score and tripped over a couple.

we could have scored 6 they could have scored 6. there is still work to do on this system.

I know I made the distinction on my last one
I am agreeing it defo was not a pen under todays rules

however for the reasons above I completely disagree
For me personally that’s a nailed on pen

I also think that even with the rule being written as is - had that happened on the line or indeed on the half way line at Old Trafford or the Etihad - a pen would have been awarded

Our defence is not completely rubbish this season.Arsenal the league leaders have conceded 37 goals. We have conceded two more (39). Not scoring enough goals has been one of our problems.

"Ball to hand" was a part of the rule as far back as I can remember.

Well I'd agree based on the data. we are losing tight games when sides defend deep and we are ineffective. convert several lower half games from poor poor loses to draws and we are top 4.

even ignore horrid losses to Brighton, Brentford and wolves.

no excuse to lose to Leeds, forest, Bournemouth for example.
