Why would we make a change when the current manager is doing so well without the tools to do this well?
Really fair point. Maybe we are not wanting the change as in immediate. Maybe we are sounding out potential candidates for the future. Maybe a conversation has been had with TM. Have to consider that TM was in and around the club before the Neil appointment. Maybe there is consideration to a different role. It's come out of the blue but I don't think it new information that TM was not seen as a long term appointment.
Unless Mowbray wants to step away from the front line management (which there's no indication he does), I'd leave this alone. If it's part of a greater plan than sees Mowbray in a more permanent position looking after the long term future, then fair enough. It seems completely unnecessary at this moment in time.
The fact theres even an article about this is an insult to Tony. Hes done an exceptional job, if i thought any of this was true id be ashamed of the club.
Yeah would agree with that. Possibly the club have been taken aback by how good he's done (pretty sure his remit was to keep us up/stabilise) and any plans to bring in a young, foreign coach have to be shelved for now
It's a tough one for me. I really wasn't keen on Mowbray when he came in but he has proven all the doubters wrong. I still think he makes daft mistakes, like the midfield against Huddersfield but on the whole he's done a great job and if Carrick is up for Manager of the season, then Mowbray should but then we're also not even in consideration for goal of the season If we are to bring someone in, especially someone so young as Farioli, then I'd like to move TM upstairs and still have him around the club but also still fairly involved with the 1st team. No idea how that works though tbh.
Mowbray did talk about spending more time with his son and family when he left Blackburn so maybe that is something he wants to do as it was a quick return to football when took over here. Would only make sense to me if it is Mowbray that wants to leave or we want to move him to a role upstairs, can't see another reason to replace him after such a good job he's done. Also a surprise that it would come out (if true) with how tight lipped the club is these days.
Mowbray lives in Yarm not far from me. Being at Blackburn meant he was away most of the time and he said being a manager for us would mean he can take his kids to school every morning and see them on an evening. He wouldnt need to leave us to spend more time with his kids so i cant see why he'd want to leave. Other than Boro we are the ideal job for him. Hes also done nothing to warrant being replaced, infact quite the opposite so there really is no need to bring in a replacement and a whole new coaching team in to replace what we already have now. Id like to think this is all false information but who knows with Sunderland. We never seem to have any long spells of normality.
He's done a fantastic job, he's obviously well capable, and has perhaps achieved what he wanted to or expected, so in what way has A.M. overachieved
Im not sure we'll be desperate to change anything mind. But TM said an interesting thing yesterday after the match. He was referring to the possibility of promotion and the quantum leap that would be. He said I think, " At my age I don't really need to work". Something like that. I think he meant by it that any challenge in the PL would daunt him less because of it. So I doubt he sees himself as a long-term manager, or that the club do. He is perfect for the set up now though, and when he feels like he's done enough that might be it for him. The club though, whoever it might be, need to have some ideas about who should follow him.
Well , partly out of caution I imagine, but the manager himself once or twice has said there is no pressure on the team to be top six, and that consolidating was the aim. Being "ahead of schedule" is another thing he said yesterday. I think most would agree as play off winners from League One usually go straight back down!
I suppose we don't know what conversations happened back in August. Maybe they had Farioli lined up but couldn't get him until the summer and asked TM to take the job to the end of the season regardless of what happened. It'll all come out in the wash, but at 59 I'm sure Mowbray has a few years left in him
The club will just be keeping an eye on future managers - exactly like they do with players. Only way TM will.leave in the summer is if he wants too. Its great that the club is keeping an eye on young exciting managers
TM has said that we have overachieved and performed above expectations, club being ahead of its schedule. His words.
