Several times in the last couple of games it's looked like the players don't yet trust Vaughan? Understandable maybe to a degree. Possibly most obvious example yesterday was, ironically, in the build up to our goal. Surely the correct pass for Tufan to have made was to the left to Vaughan who was in space. Instead he chose to go right to Allayhar who had 2 players on him. Thankfully it broke back to us, and that clever back heel from Vaughan contributed to the penalty. Elder seemed to ignore him several times (or at least chose less obvious options). If Rosenior chooses to select him, the players should have more confidence in him .... but having said that, Rosenior also chose to bring on Malcolm! Poor decision that could have lost us a couple of points as we were effectively left playing with 10 men. I remember when Bowen and then KLP broke through. I didn't think either were ready, they were like boys playing in a man's game, and so felt at the time that they should have been introduced more gently. It turned out I was wrong. Hopefully I'm also wrong with Vaughan and he quickly turns into the next Bowen or KLP.
It's very encouraging to see the young lad Frankie Vaughan playing so well. It's too early to say how good he is and only an idiot would say he could become another Bowen. I think he could become another Bowen. Get rid of the deadwood, there's plenty to go at.
I noticed that to a degree, yesterday. HV didn't touch the ball until about 20 mins in. That was perhaps because he was stuck out on the left wing and Elder was doing most of the carrying down that side. When HV got the ball he looked useful. On Malcolm, there'll soon come a time when he never gets a touch. Sort of reminds me of Harry Wilson when he was here. None of the lads would pass to him in the warm-up. Perhaps he had a 'I'm better than you lot' attitude, but I'm only guessing on that. Vaughan looks for more of a team player than Malcom. He looks to be a very good prospect who could go far.
A few times players didn't pass to Malcolm. Not sure if it was because they didn't trust him, he was in a poor position, or he wasn't on his toes looking like he was going anywhere useful regardless. I hope he's only being played so that we can show Palace we'll play their loanees to keep them sweet for future loans. Can't see any other reason
I was lucky. It was originally a night match but the whole of the country was having power cuts during the Miners' strikes. Hull was divided into three areas each of which lost power for eight hours at a time. I thought I was going to have to skive off having bought the ticket. There was no way I was missing George Best. Fortunately, my school was in an area with no power that afternoon so I was able to go without problems. Best was not good at all. He was a real disappointment. I saw the Watney Cup game, which was actually August 5th,1970 and he wasn't great in that either.
From what I see Malcolm has technical ability. But to get to the top level you also have to have the desire. At present, he seems to lack this quality, but is that because of his young age, and will this part of the game come when he matures? I think only TWT, but unless he shows more application he is unlikely to get the game time to develop it. It really is a gamble which way it will go.
A few times they didn't pass to Vaughan - especially first half when he was in plenty of space. It looked like he was someone's kid brother who no one wanted to pass to at one stage! When it did reach him it was via Greaves to Seri to Elder to Vaughan, when the ball from Greaves to Vaughan was on
On yesterdays showing I wouldn't pay £30. He was lucky not to be sent off yesterday as the ref should have booked him for trying to grab the ball off the ball boy at the North Stand end before he got a yellow for his spat with Malcolm
Harry and Malcolm are the same age. The expectation on Malcolm is huge because he's come from a Premier League side, whereas expectation on Harry much less so as he has come from a National League club. Harry had 86 minutes to show what he could do yesterday, Malcolm had 21 minutes. Give the lad a break ffs.
Not all (young players) will make it, beyond ability - sometimes it's self directed effort, right place right time, attitudes, fitting in... https://news.sky.com/story/amp/youth-football-what-happens-to-those-who-dont-make-it-12226577
Harry is 6 months younger than Malcolm, Harry looks and plays like a footballer. I can't see what we are trying to achieve with Malcolm. He isn't improving us and if we improve him, he's not our player.
I think that is a fair point, I suspect Liam is rather disappointed in Malcolm because he expected more. As you touch on far better to give our own players a chance rather than try to improve players for other clubs. Loans can work, as with Harry Wilson etc, but they have to be at the level to have an impact, rather in the development stage in the Championship.
7 months actually. The minimum we should expect is that whoever wears the shirt at least tries. Malcolm just doesn't seem bothered . You'd think Rosenior would be fuming
I think it can't be understated how good Vaughn has looked and how cheap he is for us. Can't forget Covil as well who was similarly looking brilliant before his injury. We have some good young talent.
Yes Rosie must be furious that a 19 year old who has made 2 appearances for Palace and 16 appearances for a team that got relegated last season isn't performing like Mo Salah.
