It's Friday, so we must be off to see The Damned. Third time in 5 days...the spirit is willing but the flesh is getting weaker by the year. A 'spectacular' was promised prior to the tour being announced. We shall see.... Irrespective, it's been great. Spent a fair bit of time with Monty's Mrs last night and meeting up with Paul Gray's tonight. It's a shame that the set has been so rigid...but I guess Dave has got less lyrics to remember.
A Gerry Anderson show called the protectors, it starred the man from UNCLE Robert Vaughn and Nyree Dawn Porter a worldwide team of crime fighters, I recall a young joanna Lumley was in it
Unfortunately, yet another figure from my youth passed away yesterday, at the ridiculously young age of 62. I'm sure Mark Stewart wasn't everyone's cup of tea on here but I was rather fond of the Pop Group back in the day and for me personally, whilst everyone still raves about She is beyond good and evil, my favourite single was the split single with The Slits on Rough Trade back in 1980. In fact I still have the double 1 sided promo pack RT produced to promote it.
Absolutely bolloxed today...head thumping, ears ringing and every joint in my body complaining about the last week...but the heart is lifted and I'm counting the days down to Rebellion and the next performance. Met loads of great people before the gig...and most of them were determined to drink heavily! Due to Mrs B's burgeoning friendship with the band's WAGs, we got invited to the after party. Mrs B got invited into the inner sanctum of the Green Room and spent 10 minutes chatting to Mr Vanian (yes, the boots were on again!). Finally trudged off at about 12.45 and got home about 03.30 A really great tour. Lots of younger fans in evidence and an increased energy and purpose from the new drummer and the new material. A Damned New World...it could just be...until they **** it up, somehow.
It's being suggested that The Academy's future is in significant jeopardy with police supporting the revocation of the venue's licence. Hopefully, a buyer can be found to keep it open. The existing owners were ****, but with the right management, it can still be a decent venue.
Restore the Astoria 80s "security" model (big black guys in black bomber jackets, at least one of them with a Rottweiler on leash) .
Off to see The Witchdocktors tomorrow night @ The Hope & Anchor. I haven't been there in a looooooong old time. Good band in a good venue with some good mates. Cheers to Mickey C who died earlier today. The bloke who famously said... "They made a film about decimalisation?" ...after he'd asked what the film 'The Longest Day' was about and been told... "It's the story of D Day, Mick." You will be missed.
It's a shame that I have to work tonight because my place is literally a 15 minute walk from the Hope and Anchor and I'm always up for popping in there as the beer is always good although downstairs It's a little pokey! In fact whenever I'm asked where I live I always say Canonbury as I can't bring myself to say Highbury! Anyway I'm sure you'll have a good time.
Shame, but it was a good un. Segs and Leigh Hegarty turned up. The place was definitely rocking. It was the 8th anniversary of Rockaway Beach on Friday nights...and fairly raucous. Catch you another night.
It's the Friday nightclub run by Tim DeRella and his Mrs. Punk/goth,indie but not particularly Ramones.
An article in The Guardian about those who refuse to age gracefully and are punk until they drop... https://www.theguardian.com/music/2...e-punks-keeping-the-spirit-of-rebellion-alive I intend to go out kicking, screaming and dressed like I raided a Sue Ryder charity shop with my eyes closed...and an electric lizard green mohican.on what hair I've still got on the top of my bonce. Who's with me.........
Not sure about the Sue Ryder chic but at a recent family event I was addressed by one distant relative who was dressed head to toe in M&S beige about not wearing a suit , he is 2 yrs younger than me and he was told in no uncertain terms to **** off and mind his own business , another plus point is it is one less Christmas card to send
