As it's Easter Monday, better get the playlist going ...which the TV schedulers have spectacularly failed to do
Anyone been to Lafayette ? , a new venue to me in Pancras Square London , just booked tickets for Sarah Jarosz in August
Ok prog fans, the best Genesis song ever and if you don't agree I will fight you behind the bike shed after games, the Hackett solo still sends shivers down my spine 50 years after I first heard it
Really can't argue with that - even if I didn't fancy a scuffle! It was one of the first solos I heard that convinced me that an electric guitar didn't have to be 100mph shredding and that the instrument (in the right hands) had a right to the top table of instruments. It's also more than ironic that Hackett has done more to keep the 1971-76 Genesis alive than Tony Banks who effectively sidelined and pushed him out. He tours the Genesis revisited material almost constantly and they are great gigs.
True, I've been to see his last 4 tours , not massive on his solo work but the band he tours with are very good
On a Prog note... Sky Arts are currently showcasing Moody Blues, Days of Future Past Live, 50th Anniversary DVD from 2017. Only Hayward, Lodge and Edge remain. But they were my intro to British prog around 1970. Incredibly talented musicians and with the visionary poet Ray Thomas and Mike Pinder they laid the base for all that came later. That Hayward unfortunately reminds me of Michael Fabricant (or vice versa) is the only downside!
He has been incredibly prolific as a solo artist over the years. I have most of not all, although probably only Voyage of the Acolyte and Please Don't Touch get much of an airing these days. I'm a bit biased as I designed some lighting sets for his first solo tour back in late 78
The Moody Blues were also my first awakenings to prog through my mates elder brothers record collection , those first 3 albums , we used to pinch them out of his room and play them on my mates beaten up old Dansette Tempo record player , I picked up all 3 albums on CD last year for £ 1.50 at a car bootie
Off to The Damned in Brighton on this sunny afternoon...dressed entirely in black. Isn't it time someone invented lightweight velvet and leather?
Didn't see any of them (as far as I know). Everyone was very nice. Which is what happens when Mrs B has the boots on...
I saw Ian Noe there last May. The beer prices were a little steep but the sound at the venue was good and there's a balcony you can view from if you don't want to get down the front. Btw I wasn't aware of the Sarah Jarosz date, think I may have to invest if there are still tickets available!
If you replace the gin with Vodka then I have the same memory. Matt Monroe was a fantastic singer. If you like that sprt of thing.
