I vaguely remember reading that in some of the ancient Greek, City States, they had a different way of electing their government.

It dawned on the population that the very worst people to put in charge were the ones who put themselves forward for the job.
No doubt the thought crossed their collective minds that these people were looking to get something out of it.

So the governing Councils we chosen by chance,
The equivalent system would be everybody's names went into a hat and those who's names were drawn out, HAD to serve out the term.

For some reason, this didn't catch on, but you can see that it had merits.:emoticon-0105-wink:

Worth saying on this that the NHS does not just fix our ailments etc.

It is also home to a gargantuan sized, and self feeding bureaucracy. I've been reminded of that this morning when I had to stand in for a meeting.

There were fourteen people there, it took an hour and a half, not one of the people there had any real impact on what was happening, ( the engineers involved couldn't make it) and off they all toddled. Presumably to the next one.

I asked one women at the end what she did. She was a Sustainablity Co -ordinator -whatever one of those is - according to her over sized badge . She said to me that her main role was to "co ordinate sustainability!". No **** sherlock. I just laughed and walked off.

These people weigh down the service, hide behind the protection offered by working for the NHS and grow into absurd areas. Hundreds of Diversity managers, some reports say thousands, battalions of " well being" managers and other such barnacles which only ever grow in size.

Imo, that's where the money should be coming from. A huge strip down of the giant management structure. It is vastly top heavy.

I have been to the hospital 3 times in the last month, just waiting for patients, I watch doctors and nurses and other people that work there and I honestly couldn’t work that slow or unorganised if I tried. There are doctors walking up and down the corridor and never actually do anything just wander back and forwards with a clip board I watched 1 nurse/worker walk into the same ward and come out with a bag of rubbish which looked like paper by the look of the weight of it 4 times and chucked each one in the same bin. I know they are supposed to be rushed off their feet and I was a big supporter of them getting a pay rise, now I’m not so sure.

I spent a night in Sunderland royal a couple of weeks ago, and from my hospital bed i saw nothing but very busy nurses constantly looking after patients. I cant praise them enough.

I wish it was, I sat and watched for 10 to 15 minutes and then me and our lass began to think it’s one of those that nobody knows who they are but still collect a salary.

Aye they were great with my Dad. Night shift mind, the professional skivers dodge that like the plague cause there's nowhere to hide.
