It is shaping up to be a summer of absolute organised chaos at what used to be Tottenham Hotspur Football Club. I'm interested to gauge opinion as to which players we should move on this window and who we should be looking to bring in. The first list is likely to require quite a few scrolls, sadly. OUT Lenglet (return to Barca) Sanchez - £10m Tanganga (loan) Royal - £10m Rodon - £5m Sessegnon - £15m Ndombele - £10m Winks - £5m Lo Celso - £10m White (loan) Hojbjerg - £20m Sarr (loan) Gil (loan) Richarlison - £30m Total: £115m IN Robert Sanchez or David Raya - £25m Min Jae-Kim - £45m Guehi - £40m Maddison - £50m Watkins - £60m Total: £220m Net Spend = £105m. Really shouldn't be out of our reach. FREE AGENTS WORTH CONSIDERING Ndicka De Vrij Aouar Tielemans Thuram Dembele (the Lyon one) Adama Traore
Three issues with your list... 1. Dier needs to go. 2. Can't see us getting £15m for sense gone. 3. Kane is gone this summer IMHO. Can see Lo Celso, Winks, Royal, Kane, and Rodon being sold but think that we'll keep Hojbjerg and think we'll be stuck with Sessengon and Ndombele. This summer is not going to solve our squad quality tbh...think it'll take 4 transfer windows to do that.
Your auto correct was fantastic with this one, because Sessegnon genuinely plays like someone with “Sense Gone”.
Out Ndombele Sanchez Lucas Winks Rodon In CB who can reliably pass out from the back DM with absurd levels of stamina CM who can hit killer through balls
Doesn't just stop at the players either, board and coaching staff have definitely suffered "Sense Gone" symptoms!
Ive seen one of these lists before Probably last summer No one buying our dross and not for the prices clueless Levy will set for them
Given that we're likely to have no coach, DoF or Chief Football Officer going into the close season, who the **** is going to coordinate these summer's plans? It'll be the usual clusterfuck of chaos brought to us in the name of sporting excellence by 'you know who'... There's every good chance that things will be significantly worse than they are now.
Sanchez is in the last year of his contract so we're probably going to take what we can get for him, while Lucas is out of contract That at least frees up two spots relatively painlessly, although Ndombele is the big ticket item we need to shift and I'm not sure that's possible outside a cash + player deal
I agree. I think part of the problem is the way levy clearly views buying/selling. He doesn’t like to be seen to be “losing” in this game he plays with negotiations. As a result, we’ve been left with loads of players on our books who we should have cut our losses on, and players that have been here far too long. the task is monumental. We’ll get rid of a few I’m sure. We’ll also sign some. But it will take about another 4 or 5 windows to get anywhere near sorting this mess out, even with a clear direction, which we don’t have either! Whatever progress we thought we may have been slowly making under paratici has just taken multiple steps backwards.
OUT Levy ENIC IN Football ambition Football Organisation Football Identity Football Pride ****s being given about the football
I am genuinely confused by this. We've just had our best run of league finishes ever and built the best stadium in the country, despite being only a mid table club with middling income when ENIC took over. We are catching up on income but still trail three clubs massively. How can we possibly expect anything better? It's literally never been this good.
Tbh I hadn't intended this to become another thread to discuss the current state of affairs at the club. It was more a space to 'detach' from that and simply run through squad changes over the summer. Players coming in are especially important as we need them to hit the ground running and immediately upgrade the first team. We cannot afford more Sessegnons or Richarlisons. Apologies if my intention wasn't clear, although I probably underestimated just how intertwined the two conversations are. Without a clear vision for next season, what point is there in discussing summer wishlists?
I actually think that despite the amount of dross we have in the squad, from a first XI perspective we’re three away from a good side with the right manager and those can all be sought in one window. Squad wise I’ll leave for later debate as that’s based on certain exits, I’m also assuming for one second that Kane is staying, despite it being unlikely. Ins: Raya - £35m CB - not sure, CK says Kim, I think he’ll want a bigger/ better club. Ideally we’ll target a Vertonghen-esque calming influence capable of playing it out. Maddison - £50m Gives us an XI of: Raya Porro, Romero, CB, Udogie/ Reguilon Bentancur, Bissouma Kulu, Maddison, Son Kane The outs are a different story, that’s separate windows/ phases job that’s gonna take some time. Phase 1 - The Dregs: Lo Celso - £13m Ndombele - £15m-£20m Sanchez - £10m Lucas - end of deal Sessegnon - £10m Phase 2 - The “are you still here?”: Dier - £15m Rodon - £6m Emerson - £15m Winks - £15m Richarlison - £30m Phase 3 - Time for change: Lloris - end of deal (can be let go sooner, have too much respect for him to be a number 2) Forster - end of deal Hojbjerg - £25m-£30m Perisic - end of deal
You and I have danced this dance a thousand times and just end up treading on each other's shoes. I (and a number of others) have noticed a continuing decline in decision making at the club since the stadium build went into full swing. We've repeatedly appointed the wrong coach, sacked them and then, promptly done it again. We've bought poor and unsuitable players, for big money, who we can't sell and seen the Academy failing. We have been relying on Harry Kane, Sonny, Hugo and 'new manager bounce'. That isn't going to last. Kane will leave and barring the miracle of another World Class player taking his place, the reality of our situation will become evident. Without him and Sonny, we'd have been out of European football for a few seasons now...and could very well be next season.
For this to make any sense you have to have a target in mind to take over the club from ENIC. You can't have that because it's not open to us to make that decision. Whoever has the necessary funds could make that decision and buy the club. None of us have any idea who that will be and what their aims and ambitions would be. It could be a bunch of asset strippers like the Glazers at United or a complete novice like Boehly at Chelsea. It could be a bunch of murderers like at Newcastle, or just Oil Barons like City. You could be lucky and get owners like Fenway at Liverpool. We have no idea but bring it on you say. Just madness in my view. ENIC have raised the profile of Spurs hugely in their 20 years so that we are now considered among the top 6. Yes they have made a number of bad football decisions and the last couple of years have seen some of their worst decisions culminating with employing a manager on reputation who didn't really want to be here. Not that we weren't all delighted when they employed him because we were. Not many on here complained at the arrival of Conte. AND they backed him and tried to get the players he wanted so let's not have that excuse. This season has been awful but launching the club into the unknown is just daft when we have owners who have provided a steady strong platform and have slowly raised the level of the club to where we are in contention. It's ironic that ENIC have raised expectations and are now suffering for doing that. Everyone who has followed football for any length of time should know how fickle results are and how easy it is to make mistakes. BUT you do not employ Mourinho or Conte because you lack ambition do you. I hated both their times at Spurs but I was excited when they arrived. Levy in or out is not in our hands but whatever way it goes I'm glad some of these fans are not in charge of these decisions because a clear calculating head is required not just chuck it all in the air and see where it lands and that's despite a season that no Spurs fan has enjoyed. Sorry CK if this is not where you want this thread to go.
And who were the owners who retained Kane and bought Son? Every club hires the wrong coaches and buys terrible players. It's the natural order of things, especially when the club is under pressure from vociferous fans demanding trophies. Mourinho and Conte were both worth a try and our squad including the loaned out players has enough variety to provide a good basis for any incoming coach whatever his system or prejudices. We will still struggle to come above 5th though because of the wealth of the competition.
Levy is an astute businessman and knows as well as anyone that sunk costs are irrelevant to future decisions. The only thing that matters is whether we are getting whatever each player is now worth including the negative value of contracted salary. If we can't get that amount in transfer fees then it makes sense to keep the player. Having a player out on loan with his salary being covered is not a bad thing in itself.
