I hate it when the handicap cert wins but he did win well. How he got in on 10.5 I don't know. He was such a cert at the weights and on form, but I thought, it just doesn't happen like that. Wrong again
They waited with him Ron - weights were published before Cheltenham and he romped home there. 10lbs officially well in today.
I know Oddy. The handicap blots often don't come in but I think he might have won with the other 10lb on his back
Having watched it again I doubt he would have held off the grey Vanillier. Bold run from Noble Yeats, giving away 19/20 lbs to those 2 and 11lbs to Gaillard Du Mesnil
Corach Rambler hit the front too soon and idled badly round the elbow. If another horse were close I feel sure he would have pulled out more in a scrap
FINAL RESULTS First up a very big well done to Oddog and Stick for picking the winner of the Grand National, always tough to do, even if this year it just meant picking the favourite! However this competition was about being good throughout the 3 days and Hawkeye was a well deserved winner, winning in style by 40 points. Well done Hawkeye! Well done, Hawkeye, first class! Well done too to Oddy, Steveo, Stick, SteD, and GB with some fine tipping! Thanks again, Steveo. Enjoyed the comp.
Thought you might like to see the Timeform view Oddy " Corach Rambler (157p from 155p), on the other hand, is yet to run in a Grade 1 and has been campaigned almost exclusively in handicaps since making the switch to chasing, but that will surely change next season following another authoritative performance on Merseyside which suggests he too is well capable of making an impact at a higher level. Lining up from the same mark as when winning the Ultima Handicap Chase at last month's Cheltenham Festival for the second year in a row, Corach Rambler was so well handicapped that he barely needed to improve to gain his biggest success yet on Saturday, but once again there was plenty to like about the way he completed the task, the race already in safe keeping after a trouble-free run when his trademark idleness set in late on. The official winning margin was just two and a quarter lengths, but he was value for at least a couple of extra lengths and it's rare for a horse to land two of the most competitive handicap chases run all season without either effort seeming to get to the bottom of him. Corach Rambler certainly gives the impression that he has a bigger effort in the locker when the situation demands it and his capabilities will be better tested next season if making the transition from handicaps to open graded company. The Gold Cup is a far-from-fanciful main target and ante-post quotes of 33/1 probably underestimate him, albeit he clearly has plenty to find to get to the level of Galopin des Champs (181), Bravemansgame (174) and co."
